what is a safe way to start sports betting?

It doesn't matter if you arb or do not. I rarely any more, but I'm still proficient at it and know how many lines move in many sports near closing time because of it.

Lines are everything to every sports bettor. I don't see how that can really be debated on any level. The number you get is the only thing that matters. Every team becomes the correct side at a certain price.

hmm, so from what i can tell, this is not like poker, which you can be successful at playing part time, if i am understanding these responses i shouldn't bother wasting time/money if i dont want to put a full self investment in it?

If you can find a winning bettor on these boards or somewhere else and trail their picks for awhile you can start to pick up on what they are thinking more too.

Its a lot tougher to start out sportsbetting than poker IMO because you cant really measure if you made a good bet after the fact like you can in poker.

Stuff like Wong teasers and finding arbs are probably a good way to start.

if anything this is more true in sports, poker you have to assign ranges and there is a lot of info you don't know, its easy to just run good and not know it, sports all the information is clearly out there, its just if you can interpret it correctly from what i can tell

If you are playing an angle evaluate it, or just look at how you do to closing lines.
