Default Top set general Question

Hey Guys,
Im new to this forum and this is my first post. I searched through the last few pages but did not find an answer for my question.

I am pretty new to PLO, playing since a week (obviously came from NL Hold'em). I have been doing pretty good so far just the following hand made me think if there is something wrong in my thinking and it is to Holdem based.

first of all the HH:
-------------------------------------------

***** Hand 619338783 *****
0.25/0.50 Omaha (PL) - Thursday, May 17, 2007 2:13:01 PM
Table OH 28 (Real /Cash Game )
Seat 1: ITiiltU (75.00)
Seat 2: VendettaW$ (80.04)
Seat 3: suttinator (47.70)
Seat 4: pymes (52.65)
Seat 5: Evil-Fish (109.85)
pymes post SB 0.25
Evil-Fish post BB 0.50
** Deal **
ITiiltU
VendettaW$
suttinator [2c, Qh, Ks, Kd]
pymes
Evil-Fish
*** Bet Round 1 ***
ITiiltU Call 0.50
VendettaW$ Raise to 2.25
suttinator Call 2.25
pymes Call 2.25
Evil-Fish Call 2.25
ITiiltU Call 2.25
*** Flop(Board): *** : [Kc, 5s, 10s]
*** Bet Round 2 ***
pymes Check
Evil-Fish Check
ITiiltU Check
VendettaW$ Check
suttinator Bet 11.25
pymes Fold
Evil-Fish Fold
ITiiltU Raise to 45.00
VendettaW$ Fold
suttinator All-in 45.45
ITiiltU Call 45.45
*** Turn(Board): *** : [Kc, 5s, 10s, 8h]
*** River(Board): *** : [Kc, 5s, 10s, 8h, 3s]
*** Showdown *** : Rake: 3.00 Total Pot: 99.15
ITiiltU [Qd, Jh, 9s, As] Ace high flush Win: 99.15
VendettaW$ Fold Win: 0.00
suttinator [2c, Qh, Ks, Kd] Three of a kind, kings Win: 0.00
pymes Fold Win: 0.00
Evil-Fish Fold Win: 0.00
----------------------------------------------

So my Question is: Is it to Hold'em based thinking: 'I've flopped top set I need to get my money in as soon as possible' and should I rather be playing check/call to see where I'm at on the turn before my money goes in?

Any help would be appreciated

He had the absolute best possible draw against your top set on that board. This is fairly standard and is almost exactly a 50% coinflip.

Embrace this kind of variance or playing pot limit omaha will destroy your mind.

No it is good to get all money in the pot with top set on a board which have no straight or flush possibilities.
The worst case you can get is that you are 40% dog (top set on a K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] board and your opponents hand is T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]).

In this hand you get a coin flip with top set (In Omaha the power of draws are much more important than in holdem, because it is possible to have 13, 17 or 20 straight outs + flush outs, making sometimes the drawing hand favorite over top set at the flop), but he can have here also a weaker draw or much better for you second or third set or maybe top 2 pair.

Here your equity is still over 50% because you hold 2 cards your opponent can not hit to improve.

It can not be a failure to push with more than 50% equity and if you hold not that 2 cards he can not hit to improve, your equity is still 48,5% and with the dead money in the pot shoving is +EV.

In Omaha manytimes the chips goes in the pot, when it is 50-50 or 60-40. In holdem things are most times 70-30 or 80-20.

I'm an omaha noob too, but I'm pretty sure calling preflop there is a leak btw.

Hero is calling less than 5% of his stack pre-flop. This is never a leak with any hand that is co-ordinated and/or has high set value.

We could have a debate about calling a 2nd pot raise, but not the first.

If I held KK27o, and villain was dangerous and capable of raising a wide range, I still call here everytime.

How about if the following is true:

VendettaW$ 70 VPIP/67 pfr

pymes & Evil-Fish are good LAGs who have been 3 betting Vendetta _a lot_.

Then are you calling everytime?

How about if all 4 of you are playing 300 BB?

Talk to me.

See? You're making qualifiers, thus a debate.

I call here PF every time with any JJ+. I think this question re: top set is one every new PLO player has, and you can't ever be wrong to felt it, although I have started to see situations where giving a free turn card can be correct in some similar spots.
