Amazed at the LACK of news coverage on this legislation
Just looked at CNN, Fox, NY Times, and USA Today. Absolutely no mention of either the legislation or the effect it had on the gaming sector. I guess stock prices dropping 50-60% in a day doesn't warrant coverage unless they're US companies.
Only site I've seen with anything resembling adequate coverage is MSNBC, but you have to go to the business page to find it. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15102480/ |

Now you have a better idea for how unimportant online gambling is to most people. The public doesn't care about this issue.

Its just not a big deal in the larger scheme of things.
I think its a good thing, if it was all over the news it might scare away more recreational players, not that whenenver Party cuts out US customers that wont create a word of mouth buzz. And yes I realize people still do things that are technically illegal, but it wouldnt help us is all. |

What I'm getting at is the public likely doesn't even know about this issue. It just seems really strange that an event large enough to cut the market cap of multi billion dollar companies in half doesn't warrant a mention. Even the Harrah's buyout offer got a mention and that's just an offer at this point, not a done deal. |

Erica Hill did a segment on CNN earlier today. She interviewed a spokesman for the PPA. He wasn't particularly articulate.

Now you have a better idea for how unimportant online gambling is to most people. The public doesn't know anything about this issue, like so many other issues related to the governance of this country. [/ QUOTE ] The "news" provided by the mainstream American media is merely the promotion of an ideology, often explicitly. This is also called indoctrination. |

A non-gambler I work with saw something about it on the news (don't know if it was TV or print or what) over the weekend.

Re: Amazed at the LACK of news coverage on this legislation
There's was a lot of news that took precedence over the gambling bill yesterday. The Foley scandal and the shooting at the Ammish(sp?) school. Also, since the legislation was tucked into the Safe Port Act at the last minute I think you'll see the media wake up on this one a little late. I do see stories on just about every media outlet today.
