Default SMB: Lost Levels thread

This thread is to discuss the original Super Mario Brothers 2 that was never released in North America because it was deemed to be too difficult.

It did end up coming out on the Super Mario All-Stars cartridge for SNES.

And now it just came out on Virtual Console for Wii.

This game is indeed very difficult. But it is also awesome. Mario is standard in this game, whereas Luigi jumps higher and has less control.

If you have a Wii I recommend you download this game and try to play through it. It's quite a challenge.

way harder. i have a problem where i can't go slow in mario games. i run through the levels as fast as i can. although i know most of mario 1, you can usually run and jump without meeting your demise. if you try this in lost levels you're bound to fall into a hole or an enemy. it's hard enough, and trying to go slow makes it harder/more frustrating.

I just watched a speed run for the japanese mario 2, and then the lost levels one (same game different graphics + some extra levels).

It's ridiculous. It reminded me of that diabolical mario thing.

Commented briefly on the game in the VC thread a couple of weeks ago. The real challenge comes in the extra worlds after you complete the main bulk of the game, the first seven worlds aren't really that tough, although eight is a bit of a bastard. I've played the thing so extensively that I don't ever want to touch the thing again.

I hate that game. I absolutely COULD NOT beat one of the last levels. I don't remember the specifics, but there was a jump or series of jumps that were just NOT cool...

that what made old video games so much better than new ones. they would frustrate the hell out of you until you beat it. it's something you know you could beat, but you'd always screw up, or the game would sort of glitch, or the computer would cheat, and you basically had to keep playing until you beat it. sort of like the crocodile jumping in bayou billy.
