It may be more. 3 years of Haren vs. 1 year of Santana. BB is going to fleece Omar for all he's got.

Would that actually be a good deal? I'm curious now. Reyes for Santana straight up, who wins?

Reyes is signed at a good price through 2010, with an $11M team option for 2011. Reyes is entering his age 24 season, Santana will be 29. Assuming that the Mets don't pull the trigger without having a a new contract with Santana in place, how big does that new contract have to be before it's a bad deal for the Mets, and how likely is it that the contract would, in fact, get to that point?

It's a terrible deal since Reyes is worth a [censored] ton of wins over replacement and costs nothing compared to Santana.

Put another way, it is entirely possible that Reyes will be worth as much (or more!) as Santana over the next six years.

Trading Reyes for anybody would be the most retarded decision in baseball history. He's young, fast, has a good bat and is a solid defensive player who will be a perennial All-Star.

Anytime I see a supposedly good pitcher sign a long term deal, he starts sucking ass since he's locked in for $15M+ for the next 5+ years no matter how bad he does. Look at Barry Zito, Chan Ho Park and Carl Pavano as good examples of pitchers who got a big contract and stunk up the place.

Santana can not be compared to those guys at all. That being said, Trading Reyes for him would not be wise. Offer them Gomez, Humber, Joe Smith and Johnson. See where it goes.
