guestimate here.

DB has played 30 hours a week for 40 years. 30 hands per hour

30*52*40*30=1,872,000 hands

could be more though. Fgators played 1.6m + donkaments.

pretty close really

[/ QUOTE ]

a) i dont think he plays (or ever played) 30 hrs/week but i might be wrong

b) i'll bet he gets significantly more than 30 hands/hr, because 30 hands/hr is standard for longhanded play and i'm sure they play shorthanded all the time

~200K spread over 2 years.

~40K at 25NL
then decided to skip 50NL and jump right at 100NL and stayed there for ~100K hands
then a few months mixed 100NL/200NL, I guess 40K hands or so
and then ~20K hands at 200NL.

You can't pinpoint your winrate with a 20k sample, but often you can say SOMETHING about winning or losing. 3 ptbb/100 over 20K doesn't make you a winning player yet, but with 10 ptbb/100 you probably are. With -20 ptbb/100 over 20k hands there's a good chance you're a losing player, so there is SOME meaning to it.

a ton of SNGs - went from $10-$8k with these then switched to...
100k @ 5/10 limit
100k @ 10/20 limit
20k @ 20/40 limit
and now...
250k @ 200nl (i had to pay back 10k to someone, i have a huge downswing, and i suck)

this is what i mean really. i think if i am losing for 20k hands i need to do something about it

i do understand how big the swings are as i suffered a 27BI downswing over 30k hands at NL200 and have only just broke even over about 40k hands total. but i think after 20k hands you can make some estimates about certain things

semantics yes, but you said "longterm" that implies winrates converging to withing +/- .5bb (at least this is the connotation i get). You just said yourself that a winning player losing over a 20k sample isnt farfetched, so i dont understand how it can be meaningful and approaching longterm.
