Another great wine. I can't remember if this was the vintage I tried or not.

Argyle - Pinot Noir

Clark,

Boone's Farm has only one real flavor.

Strawberry Hill.

I started really collecting wine about 2 years ago and would love to contribute to this thread on a regular basis.

I was lucky enough to try "The Grange" shiraz 1999 the other night (I have a bottle in my collection, but am saving it) and it was unbelievably good. At 2 bills + a bottle a bit much for day to day, but this is my OOT recommendation for a special occasion bottle.

cheers. J.

The Niagara region of Ontario produces great wines. You should give them a try if ever you have the chance. Here are a few links to wineries in that area.

I'm particularly fond of the Ferrari Carano Sauvignon Blanc 2005; also from Spain Gotim Bru 2004 (I think)

We then moved on to get a bottle of Stag's Leap Merlot 2002 which I've had there before and liked a great deal. Unfortunately, there was something wrong with both bottles they brought. The cork was filled with tar at the base, the nose of the bottle was filled with sediment, and we sent both bottles back.

Great wines often have this problem, the solution is commonly a decanter, a candle, and a good sommelier to get the job done. For what its worth, Stags Leep Merlot '02 is an excellent buy for the dollar, its one of my guaranteed home runs.

First time I've encountered this. So what you are saying is it's not a huge deal? Should I have asked them how to deal with it - or was it acceptible for me to send it back.

[/ QUOTE ]

Theres no excuse for an '02 to be in that kind of condiion. Sending it back was not only appropriate, but hopefully sent a message to the restaurant not to buy there wines at Trader Joes or Ebay.

this is very good stuff. I'm a big fan of Argyle and its a quality winery. I'm not the biggest fan of Chardonayy's that much, but theirs is very good.

Clark, if you like Sauvignon Blanc's you should really check out Duckhorn Vineyards. THeir a Napa valley based winery and their Sauv Blanc is really good

i'm a white wine drinker (i hope we're welcome!)

my two favorites:

Rombauer Chard

Newton Chard

both very full flavored for a white...with somewhat complex flavors as far as white wines go.

I think Sauvignon Blanc is done best from Sancerre and generally cheaper than their Napa counterparts.

I would generally agree with this, though, I have come across some amazing Napa Sauvginon Blancs. Of course, if one is to drink Sauvginon Blancs, I would almost always recomend that they go with NZ Marlboroughs for great value and taste
