This is really just the chain reaction of the Zambrano/Barrett fight.

Dumping Barrett in hopes of appeasing Zambrano (and getting him signed to an extension) left the Cubs very thin at the position. I seems like the Cubs were content to play whoever at catcher but have had a change in heart now that they are in contention again.

Its a little desperate, but as long as they didn't give up a real prospect then I really don't see it being a huge deal.

a below-replacement level catcher who has bad D = not a big deal?

You realize that Kendall has epitomized suck this year, right? They basically gave the A's a prospect and cash for free.

What about the pitching prospect we gave up?

[/ QUOTE ]

Blevins, 23, has gone 3-2 with nine saves and a 1.02 ERA between Single-A Daytona and Double-A Tennessee this season.

Its not a big deal at all. This trading junk for junk. Unless the prospect is significantly better than we know, the cubs gave up little and got little.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is the last year of Kendall's deal right? It isn't like they just took on a long term anchor of a contract.

kendall has put up a sub-.600 OPS this season while playing lousy defense. his june/july average is something like .270 but he still sucks balls for the money they're going to pay him.

The Cubs are not going to pay much for him. The Pirates still pay some of his salary plus the A's are paying the Cubs to take him. Plus, the Cubs are only going to have him for 2.5 months.
