Default Finance Forum\'s Stock Contest

Just trying to gauge people's interest here. There are many smart people here which I would like to see their investment strategy during a year and foster discussion.

Rules I would like to see to not turn this into a run and gun penny stock gambling fest:

1. No stocks under $1

2. Maximum 20%(?) invested in one stock.

3. Maximum of x trades per day

4. Shorting is allowed

I'd do it if there was some organized way of running it (i.e. Not just everyong reporting what they bought and when at the end of the year). A club at my school runs a similar contest through an organization called iChallenge. I'm not sure what the fees are or if there's a similar free service, but it's worth looking into.

Are options allowed?
How much are we playing for?

I thought Dan was planning to run another one?

If anyone wants to do it, I suggest marketocracy as the site!

I'd be into it. I'm trying to learn as much as I can right now.

This contest will run the calender 2006 year, I will dig through the data and post updates with the most common holdings, standings, and other interesting stats.

I created the a club on the following site (thanks Sniper!):

http://www.marketocracy.com

Once you are registered PM me your name and I will send you an invite to the "2p2" club.

Soon we will have to set up some rules to play by.

Thanks!

ok, just so everyone knows you need to create a fund in order to join the club. however, it seems the only options for funds are Long Only and Short Only. so, not sure how to do both positions at the same time

Can we just make two portfolios? One long and one short, then you can do both. You won't be able to put more than 50% of your money into either, but as long as we're all in the same boat it should be okay I think.

Edit to say maybe just doing long portfolios is a good idea. It'll make it a lot easier to compare our performance to other managers since most funds that involve shorting don't issue results pubilcly.
