OK, so what should my thinking be? When I'm up against a brand new player, how do I assign him/her hand ranges for certain actions?

I appreciate the feedback.

The obvious answer is to put people on hands based on what is most common at that level (which hopefully is not you) and build from there based on what they do and showdown. This takes experience and lots of forum browsing. Assuming everyone is a moron until they show you differently is not a bad way to do it either.

That's my general approach. Idiot until proven innocent.

This early in the tournament, we have no idea what kind of opponent we're facing. I think a case could be made for simply mucking the flop and moving onto the next hand with a healthy stack.
Naturally, if he continues any of this fancy play nonsense, then we are going to be shoving over his checkraises with TPGK and possibly less at higher blind levels.

This makes me laugh because it's so totally true at $5 and below. At $10, we can begin to assume our opponents have some kind of skill. A true "moron" by which I mean an absolutely clueless fish is a rare find at the $10 (IMHO).

OK, ok...

My definition of "cluless moron fish" is someone who dosen't realize that calling PSB's at 25/50 with a gutshot and an overcard is not really winning poker.
If you're saying that those guys exist in multitudes at the $11 than I retract my statement.

I understood what you said and yes, yes they exist in DROVES at these levels.

You could probably have a positive ROI playing blindfolded against most of these guys.
