9T from MP, hit second pair...how do we play this?
$69+6 on FTP, no hand history but fairly simple and interesting given the board/action.
Blinds : 20-40. relevant Stacks: Hero - MP: 1,240 Vilain - BB: 1,680 Folded to Hero, raise 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] to 120, folded to BB he calls. Pot = 260 Flop : A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] BB checks, Hero? Do you like to PF raise? Why bet or why check behind? |

Re: 9T from MP, hit second pair...how do we play this?
I don't mind the raise with the suited connectors, but with blinds that low I'd probably make it a 4x raise instead of the standard 3. You could also just open fold this, since suited connectors lose a lot of their value when not in a multiway pot.
On the flop you definitely have to bet, around t200 or so I'd say. Checking behind is asking an overcard to fall on the turn, and even if it doesn't you're practically begging him to bet and make you make a decision. Make him make the decision instead and bet now. If he calls, you go into c/f mode. If he raises, dump it immediately. --TFGoose |

Re: 9T from MP, hit second pair...how do we play this?
goose, its almost never right to make a 4x raise
i might limp pre. its somethin you wanna see a flop with, which you wont be able to were you to be repopped, and the blinds arent worth stealing, plays well in multi way pot. 30 bb though, might be bad. i sometimes just fold it too. as played, i bet 175 on flop, theyll usually put you on the ace, dont have to bet as much since the flop is relatively non threatening, and fold if c/red... |

Re: 9T from MP, hit second pair...how do we play this?
I want to bet this, but before I bet I want to know if I fold to any raise (e.g. I bet 150 and he min-raise to 300)? Maybe, but I feel like people make some feeler min-raises and I have no clue what to do.
I don't want a KQJ to fall. Would he call with KQ or QJ? |

bet/fold the flop, double barrel the turn if he calls and a card under T comes. if a T or 9 comes do whatever you want

I know that if I raise this PF, I have to be willing to play it right. Turn J [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] Sb bets 200. I have 17 outs if I'm right (9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 2 Tens, 3 nines, 3 eights). Do I push or a 500-600 bet looks more scary for him? Leaving me with only 400-500. Edit...the Flop had a 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], not a 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. |

Re: 9T from MP, hit second pair...how do we play this?
folding 9Ts from MP is out of the question, but that's just my opinion, this is my fav. connector next to AK. I like the raise with 9T here, and I probably raise/limp 60/40 with this hand from MP when I'm first to open.
You asked why bet. 1)You raised PF, I hate checking a flop after I've raised, unless the texture is terrible. Its weak/tight IMO. You're telling the BB you missed, unless he's seen you slowplay, which this early, I'll say thats a no. and 2)You didn't miss, you hit middle pair, now BB could be slowplaying an A, however a bet should tell you. 3/4s of the pot should do it. If he's solid, you could even get him to dump a weak A which is the only likely A holding, since a strong A probably R/Rs you preflop. you can check if you believe Villain is capable of slowplaying a strong hand. you don't have any evidence of this, this early in the tournament. stick to ABC. |

Re: 9T from MP, hit second pair...how do we play this?
If he did hit a J, he probably calls your push. I doubt you'll get credit for an A unless villain isn't paying attention. I think you messed up the flop here, I'd probably play a little tight and just call 200 and see a river.
