Default RAM easily corruptible?

I just replaced my motherboard and while transferring a pair of 1GB chips from one board to the next I appear to have [censored] up the RAM. Now I get a continuous series of long beeps when turning on the new setup, which apparently means it is not reading the RAM. I've tried the RAM in every slot configuration imaginable. I've tried it on a third motherboard that I happen to have because of a shipping problem that caused me to order another one and have gotten the same error. I tried an old single 512mb chip that I had before I replaced it with the 2 1GB chips. I'm fairly confident that everything is compatible. Is there any other explanation other than damaged chips?

The only other explanation I can think of is compatibility. You have DDR and DDR2 and SD, etc. nowadays. Not only that, but some motherboards may only be able to read PC3100 and under or something like that. My PC is from 2002 and only recognizes PC2100 DDR RAM for instance.

Hmmm, ok that's a lot more compatibility stuff than I was looking at. I'll take a closer look tomorrow.

Click on the 'specifications' link and you'll see DDR400 listed for the memory type. So... it should work.

K, thought maybe there was a chance it went beyond that (but not really).
