Default serious medical question(any doctors or med school lyfers out there)

I have developed a sore throat over the last 2 days that started as a nuisance and right now is completely unbearable. Whenever I swallow I feel what I think is my tonsils getting stabbed. I cannot sleep and those sore throat candies like cepacol and strepsils do almost nothing.
What is the worst this can be and does it warrant going to a walk in clinic @ 11pm? I cant really sleep, this is the worst soar throat I have ever had and I have had strep numerous times(mostly as a child, cannot remember getting it in the last 7 years)

25 bucks says it's strep throat. I've had it about 6 times. I couldn't even talk. Went to the doc and got antibiotics and some vicodin for the pain. It takes no time at all for a strep test at the clinics. Just go.

Do not pass go, go directly to an MD with a flashlight who can look down your throat. At worst, they'll call you a wuss for over-reacting to a sore-throat. This is what you pay (or will pay) 45% taxes for - the ability to visit a walk-in clinic at the drop of a hat.

ps: if it's something you can get some percocet for, lets talk a deal - pain builds character :-)

Probably easier than the route you are taking.

I dont think any doctors or med students will really attempt to give you real advice over the internet. Its a fairly huge liability issue. However, as a med student, I WILL tell you that this is something you should go to the clinic for. If its strep, you will NOT get over it, it will just get worse and worse until it actually becomes quite serious.
