Default Got to exist: notes for files?

I just want to be able to add descriptive notes to files in my directories so I can read them by just moving a mouse over the files - kind of like add a note to a cell in Excel. Is this built in to XP or can you get a program to do this?

In Windows, you can right click the file icon and choose Properties.

Then edit the information on the "Summary" tab.

The title and comments(or at least the first 120 characters or so) will appear when you mouse over the icon.

the 'summary' tabs are alternative data streams which are part of the NT file system, you'll only see summary in some files if you're not using NTFS.

also in the registry,
the value of "QuickTip" in hkey_classes_root\*
needs to have "DocComments" in order for that to work.
