In a dynasty league starting this season full of complete morons I have the #1 overall pick. Our categories are pts, rbs, assists, 2ptFT%, 3ptFT%, block, steals, TOs, and FT%.

Head to head. Positions are just guard, forward, and center.

Who should I take?

I have the #2 pick in this league. Assuming Lebron is gone, what's my play?

I am thinking Amare or Dwight.

Amare:
Pros: Doesn't kill you with TOs and FT% like Dwight. Minutes and effectiveness likely to go up 2nd year after microfracture surgery.
Cons: New knee problems (though not supposed to be serious). Will he be as good after Nash slows down / retires?

Dwight:
Pros: A complete beast and only 21. No character or health questions. With better shooters around him this year, may have more assists and/or face fewer double-teams.

Cons: FT%. TOs.

I also considered Wade, but I think his playing style makes him very injury-prone and there is a high probability that he will age poorly.

So I have Yao, AI, Billups... most of these players should be around on my next pick: Butler, Deng, Sheed, Artest, Odom, Roy, Barbosa and others in that range. Any of those two good or am I missing someone? Last five picks were Tyson Chandler, Josh Howard, Kirk Hinrich, Jason Richardson, Jermaine O'Neal (reverse order) to give you an idea who isn't available. What kind of categories am I looking for at this point?

You've kind of hurt yourself by taking two guards in your first three picks. You need a big man. I'd be inclined to grab Odom here out of the players in that group.

Can anyone just give me some super basic drafting tips for a standard h2h league?

It's the 9 basic scoring stats, and I literally have no idea what I'm doing.

Basically if you take someone who sucks at 1 category you just totally forget about trying to win those categories?

Again, I'm just looking for super basic tips.

The basic idea is to go all out for 6 categories and ignore 3. The reasoning of course is there is you don't need to win every category, so if you try your hardest at fewer cats, you have a greater chance of "winning" the matchup. (so far easy stuff)

the trick is to find position players that fit into the roles you want; for example, some people go "small ball," and get big players that get 3pts, assists, and steals. Likewise, some people go "big ball," and get small players that get FG%, rebounds, and blocks.

Points are VERY overrated and obviously the stat least affected by variance; people who build point-dominated teams typically lose badly. (Even if they focus on FG%, 3pt%, FT%, and points - basically efficient scorers)

H2H differs from Roto in that you really don't need 3 categories at all. As in, if you're going big (depends on which categories you use, but that is TYPICALLY points, rebounds, blocks, FG%, and TOs) people who get assists are worthless; people who get steals are worthless; and people who hit 3pters are worthless. Just build on that.

(Some really cool H2H guys then are jason kidd for big ball teams, lamar odom for small ball, etc.)

Hey, guys, didn't want to start a new thread for just one spot in a Yahoo league, so this is off-topic:

I'm in a 10-team H2H where our 10th is no longer interested, and we've exhausted our other options, so if any of you are interested: it's in Chicago, it's a live draft in a condo downtown, next Friday, the 26th, probably a 7pm start time. Entry fee is $100 due at draft. Thanks a lot, guys!

Also, we're all 23-24, so don't be 30 or over, unless you're immature. Anyway, PM or post if interested!
