Pretty confused in this hand.
I feel like this is is such a common situation that I should be embarrased that it confuses me. The villain is TAG-ish, but only 100 hands on him so no point in posting the specifics.
Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (9 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx Preflop: Hero is BB with J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Re: Pretty confused in this hand.
The read on cutoff is key here. Based on that you can deduce SB's motives for playing this way. Examples:
Cutoff is very loose/passive: Made hands would usually have bet out because that's the best way to get paid. Beware a draw that switched gears from passive to semibluff when the cutoff unexpectedly folded. Cutoff is tight: SB likes his hand a lot. He would have bet out any semibluff and any weak pair he wanted to protect. His mind is only on getting paid. Cutoff is LAG: Quite likely SB planned to checkraise the cutoff. He has something but probably not too much. |

Re: Pretty confused in this hand.
Great point StellarWind. The CO was taggish as well (assuming the villain has notes, per Joe's comment).
The source of my confusion is probably that in his shoes I generally bet out most any hand I make: semi-bluff, big hand or stone cold bluff. So when I see another player take a CR line on the flop (why not wait until the turn if he has a big hand, give me a chance to really catch up?), I scratch my head a little. - Jim |

Re: Pretty confused in this hand.
Could just be a slingshot bet(preplanned C/r). I'm not so sure you were beat at that point.

Stella, you did notice that the CO is posted and is very likely a new player? [/ QUOTE ] When a new player sits down at my Party 15/30 table I am about 80% likely to already have stats for him. And if I have a lot of data on Cutoff the odds are that TAG SB has something similar. Anyway my point is that this is what you need to be looking at the next time such a situation arises. I didn't know whether Hero had no read or merely failed to include it, but from an educational perspective the idea is still useful. |
