The Commerce $40 buy in NL is a 1/2 blind. Drop is 3 + 1 as mentioned. But they take it in 50 cent increments so smaller pots pay $3.50. I played it Sat. night for the first time. Our table was an all in fest. I saw a guy go all in 3X, 23s, and 24o twice. The 23s got him fired up. He hit a full house. I was card dead and OOP to this guy so other players wound up with his $. It was quite a show.

Oceans?? What/where is Oceans? - AB

Other than the big one between LA and Japan I think he means Ocean's Eleven in Oceanside just East of the 405 off the Mission Avenue exit. It's on the right hand side right after passing over the freeway going East behind a gas station right next to the motel.

IMO it's one of the better run card rooms in Southern California. My friend and I made four or five trips in the last couple months and I played several times a few years back.

I've heard they take a reduced drop on small pots in the small stakes NL room (the old tournament room with about eighteen tables). No flop no drop (including jackpot drop) in the main room (about twenty tables). They might have the best food of all the card clubs and it's very reasonably priced.

its only 1hr 15mins @ 80mph w/ no traffic from central LA. its worth it to check out, and get the $5 filet mignon.

Good luck on no traffic.

For a light meal or appetizer I recommend the mixed berry plate with sweet yogurt and granola ($2) or the same thing in a smaller portion mixed in a cup ($1). The big French style double thick pork chop is also great, but it takes a big appetite to finish it off.

They comp the two biggest limit games and the 300-1000 buy NL but when my friend won $4000 plus in the 40/80 he said screw the comp and went for the $20 lobster tail (one of two or three items not comped). He let me have a piece half the size of my pinkie finger.

I wasn't planning on playing today but this is so important to any rake/drop analysis regarding eTables and other games I've ranted about over the years that I need to check this out first hand and get the details right. I may even go tonight and goof around upstairs (normally I just go up there for exercise climbing stairs and to steal an occasional cup of coffee ). I'll be drinking so expect some real bad play on my part.

I've had the pleasure of playing super donked tiny NL games where you can win some decent change and the pain of watching the entire pot (or almost the entire pot - shameless plug again) dropped. You definitely need two loose donks (it it OK for an old guy to use that word?) for every reasonable player to fade the drop/collection. How long this will last is uncertain but I'm reasonably sure it won't last forever.

Quick story. In the 1/2 blind eTable game at HP very late at night last weekend I had gotten fairly deep in an hour or so (about $300). Very tight player $60 deep makes it $15 to go UTG. Next guy folds and I have JJ. I'm considering folding but decide to make it $45. Super-donk spending the last few weeks blowing off a smallish tournament win goes all-in for $120 or so. All fold to tight player who folds. I insta-call. My jacks hold up against his pair of sevens. Later he was mentioning he's gotten creamed so bad he might not be able to play anymore. If he goes busted, so does half the action in the eRoom.

Normally don't like to talk results but this one won't harm much. Was real tired so decided to play small and stay for the drawings since my estimate of each tickets EV was $30 or so and I had two.

Played the $200 for four hours, lost just under $100. Game wasn't too good, I was card dead but had a great view of the Plasma showing the Patriots dismantle the Vikings (only team I care about other than the Red Sox). Was looking for AlienBoy but just got a dirty look from the one sort of tall guy who looked a little like Dirk Nowiski (sp?), maybe he thought I was gay for approaching him.

Picked up to check out the $80 NL first hand. Got into a fairly tight game where the first hand I raise with AJ, get called, and steal on a flop miss. Next hand get QQ, raise again, now I get raised on the flop by a guy who probably thinks I'm a loonatic (raining the first two hands) on a J-x-x board and my queens hold up against AJ (nice AJ parlay for me). Stay about even for a while, stealing a few pots. Eventually AlienBoy joins the table and a while later we sit next to each other and I annoy him with my incessant chat. Attractive, on the ball, not stuck up cocktail waitress who has this silky smooth gracefulness writes a cute note on the cover to the wine I ordered (after forgetting me the first time), highlight of my night other than meeting AlienBoy.

Saw something I've never seen before. Probably retired but definitely super tight player is $6 deep. Limper in front of him and he limps for $3. More limps then a big raise and he folds for $3 more all-in. Never saw anything like it but part of this story may be hyperbole.

By midnight drawing is over and I'm real tired. Cash out about $128 ahead while AlienBoy is on his way to destroying the game as it is now good. After subtracting cost of wine, meals, and gas I was about -$5 for the night.

I have a feeling you have the advantage of knowing who I am. I'll have to ferret you out.

~ Rick

PS AlienBoy thought there was a likely 2+2 type in the seven seat of the 80 game. Was that you?
