Full writeup will come later.

The Adventurers have executed StephenH, an unwitting accomplice of the Followers of the Dark Prophecy.

StephenH was Geran, Heir to the Child of Dark.

The mighty Knights of Arendia located and surrounded the party holding the infant Geran, beloved son of Belgarion and Ce'Nedra. The group was trapped in a small copse of trees in the Tolnedran countryside.

(Bel)Garion clasped his arms around his Queen.

Our son will soon be safe.

She leaned into him, saying nothing, afraid to believe it yet.

I must go with the Knights to recover Geran. The Orb will lead me to his location.

She remained composed for a minute longer, then leaped up and threw her arms around his neck.

Garion, be careful!

He held her close, whispering softly to her.

Your Majesty, it is time to go. The captain of the King's guard did not look at the royal couple while he spoke, honoring the intimacy of the moment.

Belgarion nodded, released his wife, and donned his sword.

***

The Knights sounded the call to engage. Thousands of the bravest warriors in the world stood ready to capture one small party and one infinitely precious package.

Suddenly, a voice echoed through the mist.

I had plans for your son, Belgarion. He would have been Exalted by the Dark Prophecy. But I will find another.

Before the astonished Knights could react, the Grolim Priestess Zandramas flew up into the air, rising high above the trees. She hovered there, shrouded in a hooded cloak and surrounded by a dull red glow...not the jubilant red of fire but a sickly red, like an infected wound. She raised her bony arms above her head, where she held the baby Geran.

And then she cast him to the earth.

No!

It is a great day for Light. Zandramas's words notwithstanding, the loss of StephenH, the Heir to the Dark Prophecy is a crippling blow in the struggle between the two destinies.

But this is of little comfort to grieving parents.

It is still night.
