5 handed, I'm in the CO/UTG+1. Short stack playing $31 limps UTG, I limp along with 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (If he was 100bb then I raise) Folds to the BB who makes it $4 to play. This guy hasn't been playing long, 25 hands or so, he's seemed a bit loose and active, has raised a few pots, haven't seen anything nuts from him postflop though. BB has 100bb, I cover. Shorty calls and I call.
Flop is: 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Pot: $12.50 giving me a FD and a gutshot. BB leads for $10, Shorty folds, I call (not raise) because: 1) His BB raising range is probably a bit tight 2) This flop is good for his range 3) His flop bet is pretty large and is from OOP into 2 callers Is my thinking right or wrong? |

Meh, neither is "right" or "wrong".
A raise here is the classic semibluff, maybe he'll fold, if he doesn't maybe you'll get a free card on the turn (or choose to fire again), if he shoves it's not a disaster as you probably have like 40% equity. A call keeps the pot under control, and if you think villain is one to cbet then shut down unimproved calling is probably best as you can just float him and take it away on the turn. Either way he's probably going to put you on a draw of some sort, as you'd likely raise stuff like AK/KQ/AJ or whatever preflop. |

I think i raise flop here.
1) we are in position, we may take it down there are then. Villain my release KQ, K10 type hands 2) we may get to see a free river, if villain calls and slows down on turn. 3) on the flop, we have 9flush outs, plus 4queens, we have good equity, add to this the fold equity, i think the raise is +ev. Even if we are facing a set, we are not in terrible shape. |

But in general I should be more happy to raise when his range is wide and doesn't match the flop well?

I definitely call.
Pretty much because the flop texture hits his raising range OOP hard. The only hand we can represent is 55. OOP i doubt he raises KQ etc pre-flop. |
