Default calling more marginal hands to have a wider range on the flop? ep. II

So, i m going to give this idea another try after the first one ended a little off topic and the original idea could not be discussed.
So, let the situation be the following:
We sit at an aggressive mid-stakes 6 max table. villains are thinking players and likely use the tracking software and are generally observant of our play.
Say we raise preflop with a low-mid pocket pair to 4 bb, one of the described villains raises to 17. we figure that we dont have the necessary implied odds to play the hand against his range and calling would be slightly -ev in a vacuum.
The question is now, if it is possible that this move is still good because we would have a bigger calling range for later situations and are more likely to get paid off when having a good hand.
