Post About Wilco
I'm not much into new, or even remotely new, music. My music chronology goes Buddy Holly -> Beatles -> Duran Duran -> U2 -> Phish, and that's about it. There have otherwise been a few artists that I enjoy regularly (Grateful Dead, Lyle Lovett, Marshall Tucker Band, I'm sure some others) but I'm not a big music guy, really.
All that said, I can't remember having such an instant affinity for a band as I've developed for Wilco. In very backwards order (apparently), I started with Sky Blue Sky, then moved on to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, now I'm trying out A.M.. I used to check out Uncle Tupelo down at Cicero's in STL when I went to school there and the shows were great, but man, these albums are really something else. Every time I listen I like each more. Favorite song from Sky Blue Sky: You Are My Face Favorite song from Yankee Hotel Foxtrot: Jesus, etc. They're coming to the Greek in August or so, going to have to pick up some tix. I know you guys love Wilco, let's hear it.

Wilco has been one of my favorite bands since I first heard Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. My favorite album of theirs is A Ghost is Born. I felt the lukewarm reaction to Sky Blue Sky (52 in pitchfork; a lot of my friends didn't like it much) was somewhat undeserved and due to unrealistic expectations, and that it's a very solid album too.
Their earlier work is good too but imo not on par with their later stuff and I don't really listen to it. Other stuff they've done that I love include their Woody Guthrie covers with Billy Brag called Mermaid Avenue (and Vol. 2). They also have an awesome live album.

My first experience with Wilco was with Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. While I liked some of the songs, I thought it was too weird. Some months later I listened to Summerteeth and was floored. I had, up to that point, never been a fan of anything remotely country, and I'd never even heard "alt-country." It was amazing.
It wasn't long before I returned to Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. My musical tastes had evolved and it was now one of the best things I've ever heard. Interestingly enough, the same thing happened to music like Radiohead, Bob Dylan, and Neutral Milk Hotel.

First Wilco album I heard was Being There, and I loved it. I've really liked every album since, but I don't care for A.M. much.
Uncle Tupelo is really cool too, but much more "country".

Got introduced to them in '98, after Being There. Was a huge fan ever since, seen them in concert 5 or 6 times. It's been fun to watch them evolve and turn into something trendy. If you're still discovering the catalogue, definitely pick up Mermaid Avenue, the first one.

[/ QUOTE ] i have been a huge wilco fan for a long long time. my favorite album changes (has many times) but i really do love summerteeth, so very well put dave. i have seen them in concert 3 times (once in a tiny tiny venue after they were dropped from their label and were playing songs off of y.h.f.) it was epic. jeff tweedy is a genius. my favorites in order today, studio albums only. summerteeth yankee hotel foxtrot being there mermaid ave. vol. 1 sky blue sky a.m. a ghost is born mermaid ave. vol. 2 do yourself a favor and def. check out the dvd "i am trying to break your hear" and tweedy's solo dvd "sunken treasure" i try to pass them on to everyone. start with summerteeth of y.h.f. and then you will end up having to buy them all. cheers.
