I have a feeling he's telling David "yeah I'll play" in the same manner he repeatedly insisted to us he was serious about playing.

Guys like John can't show their faces around town if they back down, his ego is too big to loose face here.

Question - was that the reason why he made the challenge or was that the reason why he left? If he was sober I have a gut feeling there wouldn't have been a challenge at all.
