Re: Interesting: Sucker End of Straight
Get it in on the turn. There's no reason to play scared if you don't have accurate reads. At least OP didn't mention any.
It can sometimes be better for example to play tiny flushes a little carefully against specific opponents but here we have no reason to believe that someone has exactly AK or K9. If someone had shown down two pair wouldn't you have felt terrible for not betting more aggressively? |

[ QUOTE ]
For whatever reason, my self professed psychic ability, I check called and the guy had K9. Maybe it was a fluke luck read. Do most of you play averages only or do you ever try to pin point hands for recreation? [/ QUOTE ] It's very easy to pat yourself on the back in this situation and be very proud of your supernatural "reading" capabilities, but you gotta realize that your line loses you money in the long run. We are not psychics. Villains have a range of hands and we narrow that range down given how they play and then choose the optimal line given that information. Sure, you got a timing tell this time that made you a little cautious, but that timing tell can be a ton of things. Maybey he flopped a set and is slowplaying what he thinks is the mortal nuts. Or maybe he has TPTK and is genuinely concerned whether his hand is any good. Or maybe he just had to answer the phone. You can use tells to adjust your range estimate, but using them to totally dictate your action is donkey logic (donkey's think poker is all about tells and bluffing) and basically a crapshoot. Sometimes you get lucky and pinpoint the right hand, and sometimes you misread and lose a ton of value. On average, you want to get the money in here because given villains line, timing-tells etc, you are ahead of his range and he will call. |
