As far as "connections" and "opportunities" are concerned, anything USC can do, Yale can do, but not everything Yale can do, USC can do. This choice barely seems like a decision--Yale hands down.

BTW OP, if you want to be an i-banker, go to Yale. These other posters are significantly out of touch with how competitive it is to get a top i-banking job. I am probably in the top 10-15% of Wharton and still found it tough to get top offers. Also, places like Goldman, Lehman, Morgan Stanley, etc.. had about 0 interns from USC if those are the firms you are aspiring for.

Sorry it was an inadvertent, insensitive metaphor. It was more of comment, do you value more of a "brand" name versus something that will work just as well and more cheaply. Your metaphor is not accurate, since I would not consider USC (University of Spoiled Children) a top school. It is a solid top 50 school, but not worth the +40k of tuition students pay.

How do you know you're in the top 10-15% in Wharton?

I am not 100% of this, but it is a guess based on a few factors. Specifically, there is a special club that the top 20 kids in Wharton get invited to. I know many of the kids in the group as well as students who did not make it but also have very high GPAs. Based on how close my GPA is to that of the "borderline" top 20 kids, I feel it is a reasonable estimate. Also, since the top 20 group was formed, my GPA has been essentially straight As (whereas some in the group or others above me may have dropped down since many kids delay taking required classes they feel they will do poorly in until senior year).

USC is not a good school. I dont know what other colleges or universities are like, but some of the [censored] I see in classes here is ridiculous.

I visited my friend at princeton a few months ago and the atmosphere, the people and the classes were just so much more appealing. I did have a great 4 years at USC and I sort of lucked out into the job I wanted to get, but through 4 years it was just donking around at pointless classes, hooking up with stupid girls, and drinking way too much.

If you want a college experience that includes going to interesting classes, being surrounded by an atmosphere of learning and expanding your mind, USC is not for you. But if you like drinking a lot and watching football, then hooking up with a relatively hot chick afterwards, it might be for you. Just don't expect to do any learning.
