Default analog microphone

just bought one for my Mac, but it won't work. on further inspection of the packaging, it only mentions "works with a PC".

why would an analog mic matter which type of computer it is working with?

not to mention i had to cut open the plastic clamshell to open it.

It shouldn't matter, did you switch from the built in mic to the plug in one in the control panel?

it is set for Line-In Port in my system preferences. i have an old mic that is plugged in, that works, so i'm pretty sure it's the mic.

I woudln't think there was enough stuff in a cheap analog mike for the computer to tell the difference. Unless it has a different kind of plug on it or something or uses a particular voltage that PCs use but is less than Macs. If you have the receipt you should still be able to take it back though.

Is there a reason why are you using the "line in" port instead of the microphone port?

The "line in" port is generally for hooking up things like steroes that you want to play through your PC for purposes of capture or whatever.
