Beat: My roommates are up $2.6M in 6 weeks and I work a 9-5
Disclaimer: I almost didn't post this, but I just feel like I happen to be in a fairly unique and amusing situation in the poker world.
My roommates since 6/01/2007: Me since 6/01/2007: I am the newly famous and infamous KRANTZ and whitelime's other roommate, the Turtle to the twin Vincent Chases, the face on the edge of the photograph, the Tito Jackson of the poker world. I supported myself with moderately successful ssnl for a while, then took an honest-to-goodness real job as a warehousing analyst for the retail chain Steve and Barry's this past April. I posted my daily routine here. Since I did that, my roommates have made more than $2.6 million at unlimited texas hold them. My salary is less than $50k a year. Tip from me: after watching friends become very successful, saying, "Dude, I should get good at this poker thing" and then only reading BBV4LIFE and OOT will not achieve the desired results. In all honesty, though, I have no resentment. I've watched Emil play for years now (met him in 2003 at a $0.25/$0.50nl $10 buy-in home game he was hosting when we were both just starting out in poker), and the only emotion I have is huge respect for his and Jay's level of play. From the perspective of an ssnl grinder, their talent is pretty amazing, and I believe they've earned every nickel of their recent success. I've studied poker fairly seriously for years, and I can watch one of them play a single hand and think, "I have absolutely no idea how to play this stupid f--king game." Plus, I've been able to meet a lot of really cool people and go a lot of really cool places and have a lot of cool stories while hanging out with these guys. And they're obviously awesome roommates to have ("Yeah, Emil, I think buying twin plasmas for the living room can be considered a necessity..."). That said, it's pretty weird to get out of bed in the morning and hear that your roommates made what would be a decade's salary to you while you were asleep. At least I've gone and woken up Emil before. |
