but to answer the question, it doesn't really matter how long it takes, the record is the record, though obv breaking it in 14 games would be more impressive
people still talk about the Dolphins perfect season, and how a team would need to go 19-0 now to match it, which is longer, but I guess doesn't matter.

QB rating 127.9 (record Manning 121.1) Att/Comp 392 for 284: 72.5% (pace 570 for 413) (records: Completions 418 Gannon; Comp % 70.55% Ken Anderson) Yards 3,439 (pace 5,002) (record Marino 5,084) Touchdowns 39 (pace 57) (record Manning 49) --------------------------- Also Randy Moss has 16 touchdowns (pace 23) chasing Jerry Rice's 22. He also has an outside shot at yards 1,095 (pace 1,593) record 1,848 Jerry Rice.

[/ QUOTE ] A "record" is just a data point. We are all capable of thinking rationally about the data and drawing conclusions from it...if the RedBean has taught us nothing else, he's taught us that. If Peyton has 49 TDs in 15 games and doesnt play the last one because they've clinched, it doesnt make any sense to consider the guy who had 47 TDs through 15 games but played the last one any way and threw 5 TDs. I'm not saying Brady shouldnt have the record, just that it is an entirely different record. We dont know what Manning would have thrown and if Brady gets to like 52 in 16 games but only has 48 in 15, it is not obvious which is more impressive. But its probably Brady.

Two seperate things. First, there is records for one season, i.e. 49 TD passes
Also there are time based records if you will, such as, most TD passes thru 7.5 games or most TD passes in 3 minutes... my point is it doesnt matter if Brady has 48 thru 15 games then throws 2 in week 17, or if he has 0 thru 15 games and throws 50 TD passes in 1 game....regardless, its the record for TD passes in one season.

he's averaging close to that per game that might be the record he shatters by the most

The correct point is your first line. Brady should get the record for whatever he does in a 17 week season and everyone should think objectivly about who was "better". Cody

I honestly think watching the 2004 Colts offense and the 2007 Pats offense compete would cause a rift in space-time. They were two squads that could go "playstation" on their opponents. My point was just that the stats now are largely situational (LDO) and so it's hard to compare on paper. Cody
