Default Poker Music

For those of you who listen to music while playing poker, do you find it has any impact on your mindset while playing? Do certain types of music seem to make you play better?

This is something i've noticed with my own game. I grew up on metal, and now I listen to pretty much everything, but at the poker table I listen almost exclusively to hip hop. For whatever reason, I feel it helps my concentration and makes me a better player.

Thoughts?

A lot of players in the past have said they listen to metal. I find those I play against in B & M that listen to metal tend to be carelessly aggressive which wears thin for them after a half hour or so.

I like music that I do not have to think about when I play. So I do not like music I grew up with when playing.

I often listen to Enya when I'm FT, or deep in the money. Pretty much the closest thing to a tiltproofing elixer I've found...

I dont listen to music with words. (being a hip hop artist myself, if i listen to music with words, my focus is on the music. if i listen to instrumentals, then i can focus on other things). i generally listen to very easy going music, that is very repititous, esp while play live poker, or playin a 4-6table grinding session online.

i generally try to listen to things without too much energy. i used to listen to TaQ (hardcore techno) and similiar things while playing...but it was too energetic and would make me play faster/looser. i now listen to instrumental hip hop...as long as theres not too much energy, or annoyying sounds.

if anyone needs something nice and simple, listen to 'Violins of Violence'...the instrumental by Necro. very good instrumental that doesnt have too much energy, but wont lull u to sleep either

I also grew up on metal, and now I listen to pretty much everything. I started listening to hip hop because it's good background music and allows me to be more patient (time seems to go by quicker with a beat). Now I listen to classical music or norah jones. Allows me to forget that I'm surrounded by guys and cigarette smoke.

For some reason I seem to do much better when I listen to Jay-Z, everything else affects my play negatively.

Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians
Thomas Tallis' Spem in alium

Don't know if they make me play better, but they sure don't make me play worse.

Back in the good ol' days when Party Poker was still around, when I would get deep or to a critical point in a MTT I would play Frank Sinatra. I know it sounds crazy but I like all kinds of music and I've always liked alot of older stuff, especially Sinatra. When playing poker and listening to Frank I get that "Vegas" feeling, I guess because was so closely associated with the Old Vegas.
