does anyone have even a rough estimate of how many wsop tourneys hellmuth has played in, as opposed to doyle and chan?

Really? Even though Doyle has been playing WSOp events since the early 70s? And both him and Chan seem to hit quite a few events every year?

[/ QUOTE ]

Doyle, Chip, and a few other boycotted the WSOP for many years bc of issues regarding the Binion family. However, I think the arguement that Phil has play more events than the other two, therefore Chan and Doyle are "better" is a poor one. An arguement could be made that Doyle and Chan played against smaller fields back in the early days.

i'm sure he's entered many more than both of them, but it is not like chan and brunson didn't have the opportunity. similarly hank aaron had many more at-bats than babe ruth but he is still the home-run king.

(umm we'll pretend bonds never cheated for this analogy)

[/ QUOTE ]
that's the point, we have that info: babe ruth had 8,399 at bats, hank aaron had 12,364.
but how many more tournies has hellmuth played? i have no idea.

[/ QUOTE ]

i just thought ive read before that the only one going specifically for bracelets in the 90s was hellmuth. players like doyle and chan stuck to mostly the side games with the occasional tournament while phil played a full schedule.

so i imagine phil has played many more events.

To increase the screen size, in the bottom right hand corner of Internet Explorer there is a magnifying glass with '100%' next to it. Click the arrow next to it and select a higher percentage. It works pretty well up to around 200%.

i'm not belittling hellmuth at all here.
with poker being promoted as a "sport" to poker fans, i think to only keep track of cashes is leaving a major hole in the coverage.
baseball is a good analogy. if you are only told about how many hits someone has, its not an insult to ask what their batting average is.

I think from what Doyle has said before, Phil was obsessed with winning bracelets before they were considered a really big deal. Doyle stopped playing for a number of years because Jack Binion lost control of the Horseshoe and so he stopped playing to show solidarity with him (it's in Super System).

He also said that no one could figure out why Hellmuth was trying so hard to win bracelets when most players came to the WSOP to take money off the suckers in the side games. Now, of course, everyone wants to win bracelets (plus take advantage of the juicy side games).

DOYLE HAS A BRACELET IN FREAKING MIXED DOUBLES, come on now people, enough with all of this crap. Doyle played against 20 and 30 people back in his day, this crap has to stop.
