Default How bad were the dealers at this years WSOP?

don't know what a string bet is? That's horrible

[ QUOTE ]
PL: I read your blog and you had some choice opinions on the way the World Series of Poker main event was run. A little lack of professionalism there but I mean that big of an event they're basically scraping the bottom of the barrel for dealers.

Paul: Right. And I understand that it's very difficult to have things run smoothly and maybe they did run really smoothly. Maybe there were proportionally the same amount of mistakes in that tournament as a lower tournament would have had.

But it's just kind of frustrating to pay that much money and have some dealers not even know what a string bet is. That happened at one of my tables – the dealer was like, “what's a string bet?” It's like really frustrating. And then we had to call the floor over and it took like a good five minutes.

Time in a tournament is really, really important at certain times when you're really short or when the table's just in a certain flow and then when you get something like that holding you up it can throw you out of the zone. You know?

Well, from a couple Colorado dealers I've run into who went to the WSOP last year, Harrah's was rather cheap with the dealers...sometimes, you actually get what you pay for.

But obv, I wasn't there, and what I heard could have just been sour grapes. Nevertheless, the complaint I heard was that they could have made more per hour just by staying home in Colorado. If that's true, it wouldn't seem like Harrah's was actually trying to recruit the best.

I played the ME last year, and had absolutely no complaints about the dealers. Floor was never called at my tables.

Cheers!

Some of them were really bad. In a SNG, which may have gotten "overflow" dealers, one guy seemed like it was his first time. Fumbling and exposing lots of cards, getting counts wrong, reading tabled hands wrong, etc. The players had gotten used to it though, and didn't seem all that surprised or ticked off.

some were good. same quality as say a good bellagio dealer. others were terrible. i had a dealer at one of our tables realize that a side pot was about to happen and then look up at me and say, "help me out here."

At the $1000 event, I got to the table 15 minutes early. There was a dealer there, and a deck of cards spread out, face up on the table waiting for the tournament to start. I asked "Are we not playing with the 5 of spades in this deck?"

Dealer spread out the cards and never checked the deck to make sure they were all there.

Circuit events are tiny compared to the big one in Vegas, and they have no trouble finding enough dealers through normal channels. The OP was asking about the big one.

Harrah's for the past two years has not wanted to pay dealers enough to make it worth going out there. The only reason for a good dealer to make that trip is to be able to tell your friends that you dealt in the WSOP. But for those trying to make money dealing, it's a complete waste because you have to pay your own travel expenses and the pay barely covers that.
