There used to be a link somewhere to a budget calculator, but lets start simple.

Eliminate 80% of DoD spending over 4 years. That would make a big impact quickly. All "pork" programs that are really easy to recognize (I'd start with the pork book). Phase out SS and Medicare over a 20 year period. That would be a good start.

This would be "in my wildest dreams" awesomeness. And would propel our economy through the stratosphere. just a 20-30% drop in DOD would be fantastic if they returned that money to the people.

MY LIST:

1. fairtax ASAP. Flat tax maybe but whatever you do IRS=99%gone
note: obv this would do away w/ the idiotic notion of corporate taxes. saving the american consumer billions.

2. independent audit and immediate defunding for all obvious pork. (selling off the bridges to nowhere would help too)

cutting these alone would probably fix Irons SSI problems PORK LIST READ IT AND WEEP

3. fast track all BRAC procedures for military base closure.

4. begin a recall of all foreign deployed troops.

5. Allow "opt out" of SSI. use money from 1,2,3 to help with the shortfall.

7. ????

8. PROFIT

eliminate: dept's of interior, agriculture, education, HUD, DHS, HHS, energy and a few others that I can't think of right now. I figure we could eliminate about 87% to get it to a more manageable level.

But they didn't because they assumed the government would take care of them. There would be a dramatic increase in 90 year olds working if the government cut those programs.

There is a high implementation cost for privatising retirement funding and many other private solutions.

[/ QUOTE ]
Privatising SSI ala Vanguard or Scottrade would distort the stock market incredibly.

Putting the "trust fund" in bonds doesn't distort the bond market?

I am curious as to what agency's / programs / jobs etc. Could be immediately cut without serious harm. I am not interested in "LDO ! wipe em all out" type answers. I am asking for real world answers about how we can get government under control.
