How should hero play this hand differently to get max EV? Was I too obvious in capping the flop? Should I have slowplayed this hand?

Overall your play here is pretty solid. I think you might have been a little overzealous on the turn, but on the river you have a clear value bet as the turn 3betting villain is clearly overplaying the 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. If someone happens to have you beat this hand should at least help to create a good gambly table image for you.
