Re: Things I miss...
Some great calls in this thread.
Saturday morning cartoons for sure. That feeling of waking up and knowing you've got nothing to do for the next four hours but soak up some Hanna-Barbera. I also used to live for The Wrestling Cartoon. Anyone remember that one? I was a bit older by that time, but I loved it. [ QUOTE ] Excitement of opening several new packs of baseball cards. [/ QUOTE ] This would be number one on my list. That sensory anticipation - the smell of the stale gum, the way your brain processes the possibility of opening up a Reggie Jackson or Nolan Ryan. Making up games with my neighbourhood friends and passing the twilight hours perfecting them. "Okay, if you catch the ball off one bounce in your left hand, you get ten points. But if it bounces twice you lose three." Not knowing whether or not a girl I liked actually liked me back. Looking forward to seeing boobs in a PG movie. Or, for that matter, trying to watch scrambled porn to get a glimpse. WOOT! Post number 2000! |

[ QUOTE ] Having a swimming pool to cool off and soak in during hot, lazy summer days, or after a hot day at work or school. [/ QUOTE ] I have a pool. [ QUOTE ] Being able to jog pretty much as long as I wanted to. Especially great were barefoot jogs along the beach, running in the water to cool off when I wanted to, or taking a quick swim in the middle of it. Also really great was doing it around sunset or in the early evening, after the day had cooled down, hearing and seeing the ocean as I ran, stomping the occasional phosphorescent man o'war, looking up at the stars in a sky much darker than you'll ever see in L.A., with so many more stars in it. [/ QUOTE ] jesus, did we live on the same beach in St. Augustine, Florida?? [/ QUOTE ] Hawaii, for me. Lived a block from the beach. Miss that a lot sometimes. Wish I had a pool now. It's been so hot lately, I even had a nightmare last Friday. I get those when it gets either really hot or really cold. |

[ QUOTE ]
Getting to stay out after the streetlights came on. What a huge step in my journey towards independence and manhood. Playing hide-and-seek and tag. Did anyone else used to call their safe zone "ghoul"? What a strange name. The real G.I. Joe and all the accessories. Not this minature, bogus modern-day imitation. Hot Wheels. We used to take sections of the orange track and smack the [censored] out of each other. Much funner than playing with the cars. Spying on the babysitter long after we were supposed to be in bed. Opening a box of cereal and immediately going elbow deep to get the prize. My two-toned purple and gold Schwinn with the banana seat, sissybar, and ball-busting three speed shifter. No wonder I don't have any kids. Saturday morning cartoons and other assorted shows such as The Banana Splits and H.R. Puffenstuff. [/ QUOTE ] Everything listed above plus the following: |

Re: Things I miss...
my older relatives. at my aunt's funeral, ( she was the first
of that generation to go ), the room was full of 60+ folks, all of whom I knew... Now, a mere decade later, only a handful of them are alive. I'm close to being that "oldest generation" of my family. seeing kids play outside!! DIVING BOARDS!! ( must have been made illegal or something... stupid liability litigation... ) playing baseball. ( i suppose i could play in a softball league... ) |

Re: Things I miss...
Definitely worth it. I love a swim at night to relax the muscles, too. Makes for good sleeping.
I've read that pools are not just "no added value" to a home as a selling point -- very different from the huge value they were thought to provide up till like maybe the 90's I guess -- but are actually seen as a potential knock on a house's worth now, for not only the previous idiotic liability reasons, but for the maintenance expenses too. To me, a house can only be so nice without a pool, and then it falls short dramatically. Especially in the summer. A pool is godly in the summer, either sharing it or alone. |

Re: Things I miss...
in Vegas, a pool is definitely a "plus" in a home's value.
