Default Vegas on a budget

ME and 2 other degens are looking to go to Vegas for 4 nights/5days...I don't care if I am off the strip, so long as I am not 10 or so minutes travel to it.

If i wanna stay at a place i feel safe at (no hookers/gang bangers)...yet want a reasonable price, where should i stay...

Also, what days would be best for a good price (sun-thurs??) AAA discounts help??? pokerrates??

Heard southpoint hotel is pretty nice... any thoughts?

Thoughts:

Orleans is a quick cab ride to the Strip and will be low priced but a nice place. Plus there are poker discounts available to the rate with 5-6 hours of play, which 3 of you will kill with no problem.

Agree-think they also have a free shuttle to the strip which runs frequently. coming back may be difficult after midnight but a cab ride can be used in that circumstance.

check IP's rates first, and compare to that... some other places will probably be cheaper but you need to factor in the cost of transportation to and from the strip. Rates fluctuate a lot so you're gonna have to do your own research for the specific dates you're interested in. When I was at the Stratosphere many years ago the rooms seemed quite nice, and it's generally pretty cheap due to its awkward location off by itself.

When are you going? What do you consider a reasonable price?

There is a sawdust joint right next to the Rio called the Gold Coast. Now they don't have much in the way of poker but their rooms are adequate and reasonalbe. Pokerwise there will be like a $2/$4 table and a $1/$2 table going. Rio has a free shuttle which takes you right over to the strip at Harrah's and from there you can go to a lot of places and play poker there at Caesar's, Bellagio, Mirage and lots of other places else.

The Gold Coast will have $5 black jack and $5 craps as far as the eye can see. I like to stay there and take the Rio's shuttle over to the strip and play. It's a lot less expensive than the other casinos. And of course they have a shuttle over to the Orleans.

Sahara. Cheapish but not horrendous, on the strip near the rail. Play green chips and feel like a hi-roller.

How do Vegas poker rates go? I'll be in Vegas on Halloween and we might have lost our place to stay so i'm kind of scrambling to throw something together while we're on the road. Can you just call them up and ask?

Yes, call the poker room and ask if they offer a rate.
