Tricky call, deep stacks 10/25
I doubled up within a few hands at this table, bout 50 hands on villain, nothing to influence my decision:
POKERSTARS GAME #12707081754: HOLD'EM NO LIMIT ($0.10/$0.25) - 2007/10/18 - 19:22:19 (ET) Table 'Pafuri' 6-max Seat #1 is the button Seat 1: dlighted1 ($14.65 in chips) Seat 2: modestmilk ($29.10 in chips) Seat 3: metalspork ($47.25 in chips) Seat 4: Wake_skate38 ($43.95 in chips) Seat 5: will641 ($82.25 in chips) Seat 6: The_MonsterQ ($10 in chips) modestmilk: posts small blind $0.10 metalspork: posts big blind $0.25 The_MonsterQ: posts big blind $0.25 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to metalspork [Qs Qd] Wake_skate38: folds will641: raises $0.75 to $1 The_MonsterQ: folds dlighted1: folds modestmilk: folds metalspork: calls $0.75 *** FLOP *** [3s 3h 9h] metalspork: checks will641: bets $1.75 metalspork: calls $1.75 *** TURN *** [3s 3h 9h] [3d] metalspork: checks will641: bets $5 metalspork: raises $8 to $13 will641: raises $66.50 to $79.50 and is all-in I didn't feel like i was up against AA or KK, 3x is unlikely, but not to be ruled out, 99 unlikely as played, but obviously can't be ruled out..... What play would you make given this limited information? Thanks, metalspork |

Re: Tricky call, deep stacks 10/25
Why no raise preflop? If you had done that you would have a much better idea of where you were.
That's a big raise, but I'd be very tempted to call. You didn't raise preflop, so he's not going to put you on a premium. You could see jj or lower here. |

3bet preflop. raise flop.
Your hand is too strong to play for set value. now you have underrepped it and you have to call imo. He could easily have a 9 here too. as played call. |

When I see trips on the board, and I'm holding JJ+, it's hard to keep me from going to town.

Re: Tricky call, deep stacks 10/25
3 bet pf to $4.. lead flop for $7 and either 3bet all in or shove turn if called. if 4bet preflop obv shove or fold leaning towards fold.. but you have to make that 3bet pf to know where you stand

Re: Tricky call, deep stacks 10/25
It was very recently i experimented with just calling preflop raises with QQ, JJ, and AK. I also call with AA, KK in some situations, raise in others. I will change this as i move up the limits, but at 10/25 people have a very tight 3bet range, and it gives off a signal. I've had good results over 30K hands.

Re: Tricky call, deep stacks 10/25
Well you beat J's and T's.. and lose to A's, K's and 9's.. and you have no idea where you stand because of the preflop action. It looks like he thinks you have a 9 and he's taking u to valuetown. So that probably rules out 9's.. which leaves you at a 50/50 decision for all your chips.
I honestly have no idea what to do because of how u played it, I'd probably fold since he seems really eager to get all the chips in. |

Re: Tricky call, deep stacks 10/25
you can definitely make money calling raises with these hands but this is not that time and >90% of the time you need to 3 bet these hands. you set yourself up with two problems here; you let him have implied odds to set mine you and you'll never know where you stand when you flop undercards.. you also will never know if he truly has AA or KK since those will generally 4bet you pf. so to solve both problems, 3bet to an effective amount like $4 so that you can be safely committed when you flop unders and if he has the huevos to flat call your 3bet with aa kk or flops a set, gg.
