Re: Pooh Bah Post : What matters, What doesn\'t
good post
however, i remember reading a post by ed miller in limit about the fact that if you were to limp T7 as ur example said in a slightly non-profitable play it doesnt really matter cause its only 1 hand, but if ur also limping T6o 96o 58o J8o etc. u will be making this play regularly and it will end up being a big leak. i know this is different because the big pots matter the most in no limit but i think this is a point to consider. |

Re: Pooh Bah Post : What matters, What doesn\'t
Really excellent post. You are dead right that many of the things that get bounced around a lot have little effect on winrate.

Re: Pooh Bah Post : What matters, What doesn\'t
Absolutely great post.
My Pooh-Bahness is rapidly approaching, but I may not even post. It won't reach the quality of the others, and I don't post much in NL as it is. You'd figure a guy with a 100k hand PT database would have something meaningful to say lol... |

however, i remember reading a post by ed miller in limit about the fact that if you were to limp T7 as ur example said in a slightly non-profitable play it doesnt really matter cause its only 1 hand, [/ QUOTE ] Well, I was talking about completing T7o in the SB behind limpers, which is probably a small leak in most cases (though could be slightly EV+ under the right table conditions). Limping T7o in EP would be a BIG leak. Even T7o in the SB was kind of stretching it, I'm thinking of things like "Should I complete T8s in the SB?" "Should I open A5o on the Button?" "Should I call a raise in the BB with ATo?" And the answer is pretty much "meh". Ed's point is of course right, that small mistakes you make over and over add up, but that's much less true in No Limit, (No Limit is more about the big pots), and the great thing about No Limit is that so many different styles can be profitable, so when you make a play that's a little bit out of line that's not necessarilly bad as long as you're making good decisions when it counts. |

Re: Pooh Bah Post : What matters, What doesn\'t
great post cbloom, it pointed out the many things I get frustrated over when in actuality it's .001bb/100 of my winrate.

Re: Pooh Bah Post : What matters, What doesn\'t
Great post, cbloom.
I especially like #3 on things that do matter. The only thing I'm going to disagree with you about is #2 on the things that don't: little things about your play. IMO what is a little thing at $25NL is a big leak at $200NL and probably a disaster at 2kNL. If you're interested in getting better and moving up, I think worrying about the little things, and regularly trying to take yourself out of your comfort zone to experiment with new ideas is important. |
