I hope you were planning on raising river if it wasn't a Q.

What was your thinking for checking turn tho?

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't understand this? Was something said and then editted that this referred to?

I'll say it again with different wording: I got a case of MUBS on the turn and called instead of raising the turn. On the river the MUBS went away and when I reevaluated I decided that I was likely ahead the whole time.

There was an edit to make it flow better, but it's all there. The confusion is from not understanding that I shifted mindsets between the turn and the river. Sorry that I couldn't make that oddity more clear on my first pass.

[ QUOTE ]
There is absolutely nothing about his play that represents AA/KK.

Once you decide to call down from the turn, which I don't mind personally, you have to stick to your plan. You have to realize that the river Q did not affect the hand. If you were behind, you are probably still behind. If you were ahead, you are still ahead.

If you think you are ahead, you should raise the turn, not the river.

Read above. And... I didn't pin him only on AA/KK but some people do weird things like limp/calling with them PF at this limit, so it was just under consideration. Also mentioned because they are hands in which the river would have, in fact, helped me.

I think you have to raise the turn. I don't know why some players do this, but they will donk the flop, get raised, and then donk the turn. Maybe he thinks he is preventing you from getting a free card? Not sure, but it's highly doubtful that 5 of clubs improved him and if his hand was that strong he probably would have 3-bet the flop since it was folded back to him.

I"m capping the river. Full boats be damned.

Your play was fine. Your reasoning was fine. The reason you raise on the flop is to get the riff raff out of the pot anyway. Many of these goofballs donk that second pair in a raised pot hoping you are on a draw or have overs and will go away. If you are ahead and he is betting but will fold to your raise, you gain. I think he has a weaker queen than yours or AQ also. Your raise on the flop defined your hand and he still wants to bet out. Just call the turn in case he is sitting on something big. If he has a set (only the 99 comes to mind) then you lose the same number of bets as if you raised on the turn. If he is overplaying his queen then you crush him. It's very possible he thinks he rivered you with his KQ or QJ or thinks you can't have a Q cuz there's 2 of them out there so he's gonna push his A9 or TT or JJ or whatever.
