$1400/40hr week or $35/hour is significantly more than the casino is paying the dealers and probably the floor too.

How many props are on such a lucrative deal ?

[/ QUOTE ]

Can you play in that room when you're not on the clock? If you're at a juicy table, could you just punch out and sit back down?

[/ QUOTE ]

your never paid overtime, but their will be times when my shift has ended and running good and the table is so juicy that i decide to stay overtime.. i never play overtime when am stuck or playing bad. thats how a lot of new props get burn out and bust.

Can you give a ballpark figure of what the lower level props might expect to make in pay from the casinos in LA? What are the lowest stakes live L.A. casinos hire props for?
Also do most props work from morning until evening or do you just get those hours because you're a host? I would imagine most casinos in L.A. wouldn't need too many props on weekends except for maybe some stud games or something because they get pretty packed.

[/ QUOTE ]

l.a hires props for all type of level and times throughout the days of the week. And the pay varies from casino to casino.

No offense, but most all the props that I have seen look pretty darn miserable. Besides that, they aren't that good at cards, are passive, always buy in short in most games, aren't what one would call attractive humans and dress very poorly. Other than that though............

Do you really enjoy being a prop?

[/ QUOTE ]

ill answer your second questions since its just silly to stereotype all prop poker players. what was your question ?DO i enjoy working as a prop? most days i do, but if i had a family and a mortgage to pay i wouldn't recommend working as a prop unless you have proven yourself over the yrs that your a winning poker player.. This is a tuff game and sometimes it it takes its toll. losing months are the worse, and you start questioning your game. but if you believe in your self and fight through it..in my opinion you become a better poker player. so YES i do enjoy my job.

The prop players down here on the Gulf Coast get payed like $7.00 a hour it cost $6 every half an hour to play 200nl.

It just didn't seem like a good enough deal for me not to have my freedom to pick and choose the games that I sit in.

Way to stereotype a live player. I mean "prop player."

Its like saying online players, are fat, geeky kids that are anti-social and live with their parents.

[/ QUOTE ]

Since when is this not the case?

Any chance rake/time charge can be itemized as a work related expense deduction against your gross salary?

It's already included in the wins and losses that anyone who reports their poker wins/losses on their taxes. If they've had a winning session, their winnings are already smaller than what they would have been if the rake wasn't there. If they had a losing session, the loss includes the rake. To list the rake again would be double counting.

i Work in the morning so normally i start playing in a shorthanded table with people who are stuck and sleep deprived which is +ev for me. once the table fills i have the option to get up or stay and wait until the floorman tells me to give up my seat.

[/ QUOTE ]

Does the floor just walk up to you and tell you to scram? Or is it done more subtle?
