Default is the poker boom winding down, market nearing cap?

is it pausible that the boom has peaked or is about to reach an invisible poker market cap? with all the anti-gambling laws being introduced and the arrests of gaming execs being in the news, this could be the good old days of poker. maybe it's too early to tell... i'm only basing it on the WPT borgata open. last year there were 515 entries for a total pool of $4.99million, and this year's 545 entries for just over $5 mill prize pool. that's +30 more entries, which is low considering last year's expansion of their poker room. and also, the annual US poker championship at the TAJ, has cancelled the 10K event... it's too early but this might be the year that poker might stagnate.

Are you breaking some news here? I still see that the US Poker Championship is a 10k event. I'll assume you're talking about the rumor that the USPC wasn't being televised, which was disproven by Oliver Tse.

sorry for the misinfo. but there was heavy rumors that the US championship was going to be without the lack luster 10k event that can't even crack $850K first place prize for the past 2 years.

if it is nearing the cap, i don't think it has anything to do with legilsation or news. if i didn't come to poker forums, i'd have no idea they were happening.

Take a look at Party Poker's quartely revenue reports and you'll see a strong increase in player signups. It could potentially be lowering in the US but I doubt it.

Wow, only 30 more players shelled out $10,000 for some generic WPT event this year than last? Yes, poker does indeed appear to be going down the toilet.

Edit to add: "pausible" = possible + plausible ?

spell check option wuold be great. and sarcasm too subtle.

2004 to 2005 there were 66% increase but in '06 it's 0.5%
2005 legends of poker= 839 entries, '06 legends= 466 (this one is hard to say because the buy-in doubled from 5k to 10k

Are there many online poker rooms with satellites to USPC? I think the many sats/super-sats for WSOP/WPT are a big reason those fields grow so much (and of course the TV exposure for those events).

PS ran a couple, but we're not exactly talking WSOP scale with the WCOOP on. I'm not sure I'd take one WPT event's numbers as too important. The WPT kind of sucks.
