Re: Bridge collapses in Minnesota
Judging by the pics I've seen, it doesn't look like the train was moving. No derailment or pile up or anything. Just a few crushed cars.

Re: Bridge collapses in Minnesota
[ QUOTE ]
I was wondering why the Twins game was still going on, here is an excerpt from Gambling911 from Foxnews: "Wednesday night's game was continuing out of fear that letting fans out early would hinder rescue efforts." Thursdays game canceled. [/ QUOTE ] ah jeez - 10K twins fans let out early decide to go gawking - that's a good point - it's easy walking distance from the Metrodome. rb |

Re: Bridge collapses in Minnesota
[ QUOTE ]
Does anybody have any profile views of the bridge before the collapse? There are many possible failure mechanisms and a clear picture of the structural system would make it easier to identify them. [/ QUOTE ] Here is a tiny photo I found, 35w is (edit) the one at the top: You can see the road going underneath the bridge where my wife and I went running last night. |

Re: Bridge collapses in Minnesota
I'm reading that fifty cars went into the drink, so I think I'm going to take the under on this one. I think that 35/50 would be my guess.

[/ QUOTE ] They shouldn't be too hard to find. It seems pretty clear to me from the distribution of the wreckage that the south pier failed. |
