Default consequences!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (update Friday afternoon)

Guys, the proposed legislation would make it illegal to transfer money to or from banks in the United States to online gambling sites. It would also prevent money handling sites under US jurisdiction (Netteller, PayPal) from conducting transactions with online poker sites.

Furthermore, it would make it illegal for internet service providers to allow access to on-line gambling sites. In other words, if you have a United States internet service provider (AOL, Verizon, Comcast, etc), you would not be able to log on to any poker websites or open their applications.

I get the sense that many of you are undermining the seriousness of the legislation. Please everyone call your Senators (and call more if you can: just look up zip codes in the states that you call as they will ask you for them). It only takes a few seconds.

Please note that each call counts as much more than one voter in the Senators' eyes, so this can really make a difference. It is important that everyone call right away! The legislation may pass tonight, and then it will be too late.

samo,

We won't know the scope of the restrictions until the legislation passes. Nevertheless, you are right that this is a serious threat.

It will be a while before things go into effect. You should be calling your senators now. Worry about cashing out later.

They slipped it in with a port security bill. Voting tonight. Weasels. I don't even play online, but this totally torques my jaw. Paternalistic, moralizing, hypocritical, political BS.

Information is sketchy, but perhaps this is not the end of it. The House version of the port security bill is not exactly like the Senate version, so I guess they still have to reach agreement. But then, IANAWL.

WTF, are you serious? I can hardly believe they have the balls to include this clause. Isn't that unprecedented in the US?
