Re: The Official Ryan Braun appreciation thread
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] hahaha, people thought he actually meant BRAUN was retarded? [/ QUOTE ] It certainly seemed feasible. After Koskie went down in spring training it seemed that Braun was gonna get the call but oh well, he's young and they wanted to see him get some AB's in AAA [/ QUOTE ] Koskie went down last year. He actually might never play again because of severe problems from a concussion he suffered. Like I said earlier, it wasn't so much the AB's that Braun needed as it was the reps in the field. When Milwaukee's bats went cold in May, the front office basically said "[censored] the fielding, we need a stick," and called him up. He's still making too many throwing errors, but his range at third has been very good and he has a cannon for an arm. Just needs to find some accuracy. |

Re: The Official Ryan Braun appreciation thread
he can be below average defensively and still be much better off as a 3b to a lf

Given what I've seen of him throwing to first, it's not a slam-dunk observation that his 3rd base defense is adequate. |

Re: The Official Ryan Braun appreciation thread
While I've never quite understood why inexperience at the big league level is an excuse for poor defense (see: Rickie Weeks), I'd give the kid more than a couple months before declaring him a bad 3B. From what I've seen (as mentioned above), he can field the balls at the position quite well and has a great arm - he just needs to find Prince Fielder's glove more often.
It seems to me that accuracy would be easier to fix than the ability to pick up ground balls. From what I read, his minor league coaches said he did very well. Maybe he's just too amped up or something. We'll see. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now and hope he can reign in his arm a bit. |
