Default AK catches an A and gets reraised on flop.....

my second orbit at the table. No reads from PAHUD yet, as not enough hands played. Villain has the button. This raise to 3 x my bet smells like trips...but i'm relatively new at NL100, having been back down at 50NL for much of the last two months. Given the little bit of info i have at the time of the hand, what do you make of this and how do you play it from here?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

BB ($49.10)
Hero ($91)
MP ($102.75)
CO ($22.42)
Button ($104.55)
SB ($140.89)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $0.50.
Hero raises to $3, MP calls $3, 2 folds, SB (poster) calls $2.50, BB calls $2.

Flop: ($12) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $8, MP calls $8, SB raises to $24, BB folds, Hero does what and why???

folding is fine. You are behind AQ/A2/22 and AhXh has you in pretty bad shape. Calling and pushing a non-heart turn is ok too because there is a decent chance this is just a flush draw or a weaker ace being played by an idiot. This is a very neutral EV spot in general so do whatever as long as you're not calling the flop and stacking off a heart turn.

this is also fine, i just don't like it very much as it seems like they almost always fire big on the turn

My limited experience at 100Nl recently goes like this if i call: I call and then he bets 3/4 pot on turn and then i fold. Over and over i've played out that scenario in poor position and wonder what your thoughts are on that....

thank you for a; very thorough answer. My thougts were as follows: IF i knew he was a lag i'd call. IF i knew he was a TAG i'd fold...but since i am new at the table i can't make those distinctions and so must wait for a better opportunity to get the money in there. I folded.

you're better off folding then. I make this play out of stubborness ocassionally and I hate it every time.

If you knew he was a LAG, why would you Call as opposed to Raise? A LAG type player will continue to place you under pressure on each street (with his drawing hands) so put the pressure back on him by Raising.

sounds good....but are we trying to push him off his hand ?? or just get more value for ours???...and isn't $24 on the flop pretty good value thus far???
