Limit: $3/$6 7 players Converter Pre-flop: (7 players) Hero is CO with 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 3 folds, Hero raises, Button folds, SB calls, BB folds. Flop: 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (5SB, 2 players) SB bets, Hero raises, SB calls. Turn: K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4.5BB, 2 players) SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls. River: 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (6.5BB, 2 players) SB checks, Hero checks. Results: Final pot: 6.5BB SB is loose passive. He has a wide range so i cant always give him credit for a jack. The turn bet is my last action for the hand. I think checking behind is horrible. Any different/better lines here? |

Re: 99 scary board
I like your line for the most part. This is one of those hands where you're afraid to value bet the river because you think you'll get checkraised by a rivered two pair or something. If you don't give him credit for a J (or a K) then go ahead and bet the river....it may be worth it to find out if he's tricky enough to c/r you when he improves on the river, instead of just betting out. It's good to know for future reference. A lot of LP's will auto-bet the river when they improve, not wanting to risk a check-through. I'm thinking he would have bet into you or c/r'ed you on the turn if he made his flush. So he may be calling you down with a J, or something like A6/A5 (maybe with the Ace of Clubs), hoping to spike his A somewhere or make a backdoor flush. Bet/call the river and see what happens.
EDIT: Ed makes a great point in the article about getting a free showdown though. You'll punish and beat a hand like A5, but you won't lose river bets to a stronger hand. ScottieK |

Re: 99 scary board
I tend to check behind on the turn when I get called when there is two overs to my PP on the flop. When a second one comes on the turn it is more difficult.
I'd probably check behind and call any non-ace/non-club river. |
