Default talking during a hand

Ok, so I was in hand yesterday at some 1-2 NL and I thought this was intersesting. I made a bet and as somebody was thinking (it was currently a 3 way pot), I said "fold, just fold". the dealer then told me I was not allowed to say that because it could be colluding. I thought about this, and I'm not sure I agree with this rule, just because if I wanted to collude with this person there are about 1 million ways to signal to her without saying something as obvious as "fold, just fold". but I wasn't upset so I just stopped talking. then she folded, leaving 1 other person and me in the pot. at this point, I ask the dealer if I'm allowed to tell him to fold, since there are only 2 people in the pot and I am obviously not going to be colluding with the only opponent in a pot (who would we be colluding against) and the dealer told me it was still illegal. this struck me as odd. I can see this being a rule when the pot is 3 handed, but when its HU I don't understand it at all. what do you guys think?

It's not uncommon for poker rooms to disallow this type of thing in low stakes games. Part of the reason is also to prevent the taunting which often goes with that kind of talk. Taunting often creates a hostile atmosphere and ruins the fun for casual players.

I wouldnt care if you are telling people to fold. That is pretty common. I dont really care what people say as long as they are in the hand.

Related story.

I'm dealing a 1/2 NL game at work this past week. 5 way action for a raise to the flop. Button is in seat 5

Sb checks, (bb folded preflop) utg bets, utg+1 raises all in.

Now I hear the 1 and 2 seat discussion what the hands that the UTG+1 will make this move with. Seat 2 is not in the hand. I now say, Folks, please no discussion of the hand. Player in seat 2 looks at me and goes right back to their discussion. "Folks, again, please no discussing the hand." They ignore me and I ask again. No response. "FLOOR" is called.

I tell the floor what is going on, now seat 2 says "YOU GUYS NEVER TOLD US THAT RULE!!! We can do this everywehre we wan't and I've never seen a poker room tell me I can't talk about it with my friend!

Floor asks me what happened and I said "in order to protect all the players at the table, I asked the players to not talk about the hand in play."

Seat 2 goes off "YOU"RE lieing you never said a word!!! ask everyone else at the table". 5 players at the table agree I said it 3 times and 2 were quite pissed because they had yet to act. Seat 2 now says: "See everyone says you didn't say a word!!! You're lieing!" Wtf, is this player a total moron or what? is all I could think after 5 people confirmed what I said.

"Cash me the Fck out, I'm not playing with asholes like you! " and pushes their chips forward and almost mixes them with the pot that is in the middle of the table.

Floor is saying the entire time to please stop yelling and that I'm 100% correct. I mean, wtf, if you play poker, you should know, 1 player to a hand and don't discuss the hand with another player while there are others in the hand. But "You never told us this rule" comes out of seat 2's mouth. I can see about half the players wanted to smack this player. Floor says to cash out up front and that will be enough playing for today for this player. The combonation of calling me a liar, swearing at the table, and so on got this player kicked out for the day. Seat 1 shut right up when I called the floor and was appologetic about the situation afterwords. I was even tipped a couple extra bucks for protecting the game.

Best part was when seat 1 is tossing me a few chips says "Don't mind HER, she's a little too intense and doesn't shut up long enough to listen to anyone."

This was his g/f! ROFLMAO She was hot too but man she had an attitude whenever someone would enter a pot, she took it personally and so on. Figures it would come to this.

Saw something like that at Ceasars a week ago, or so. Two guys start chatting about who might have what hands given what the board was showing. A player asks 'em to stop talking and they both tell the other player to buzz off. Dealer then tells them to stop and they get defensive and state quite emphatically and without a bit of doubt that since they both still have cards, they can say ANYTHING they please and there ain't a thing we can do to stop them. Dealer explains otherwise. These two both tell the dealer he's a moron. Now about 5 other players at the table jump on 'em and they back down, but state "I've never played anywhere with such a ridiculous rule."

A couple hands later one of the guys mentions he was playing hold-em the other day back home at his favorite local casino with a joker in the deck, and how much of a hoot it was. I couldn't resist stating "now we know where you play that allows you to talk about the hands." 10 people at the table thought that was pretty funny, including one of the two that was trying to convince us he could talk about the hand in progress. The guy telling his story gave me a death glare. 10 out of 11 ain't bad.
