anyway, results:
he thought just long enough so I know it wasn't a misclick, and called with 88. I still think it's an awful, awful call (even if my shove isn't good either), and he probably didn't realize he was calling a 5xPot shove on the river against a nit with a pure bluff catcher on a nasty board. i suck
