i think the old pic looks better, but if u r def gonna be keeping ur head closer to shaved than the old pic, i suggest u go with the already mention:

I think the shaved head from now, plus a beard closer to the old style would be most kickass. I'd lose the mustache and the wrap around. I think you can keep the beard quite short without it looking "manicured," and after a month or so you'll have your routine down pat. I admire your bravery. I altered my facial hair (shaved it clean), after years, and the response was so horrid that I returned to hiding my face. Apparently, I didn't look like me.

I think the best of both worlds---a slightly wider beard than the old Amish one, close cropped hair allowing for a couple weeks of growth. You'll look hardcore without looking like a skinhead.

The Walrus wrap-around would be the most awesome, but I'm not going to pretend it would look good.
