Default uNL Hand Reading Practice

I'm going to pull up some hands that I played back when I was playing NL50 and post them so folks can practice hand reading. I'm not going to be real selective and the hands aren't going to be anything special. Zero in on Hero and see if you can put me on a small hand range.

Because these hands are old, we have no reads on the villains. And our read on Hero is that he is a reg playing 20/16/4 or so and seems to know what he's doing most of the time.

1 - AQ, QQ, AA
2 - 33? I can't put you on anything else, and even that seems iffy with the turn bet. With a set or less it seems weird to shove this river, but maybe you have 55 or 44 as well?
3 - AJ+ (but probably not AQ cause you would bet the turn there) most likely.
4 - 44, Axh, Jx, Qx? The last two I'm not really sticking to.

I might do more later, but I dunno if I'm making a fool of myself already.

Default Re: uNL Hand Reading Practice

I'll probably start with just a few of these. Damnit AJ.

Hand 1: A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] all in on river hand

Overall line: raise pf, bet flop, b3b turn - aggressive

preflop: range is super wide here, raising from the button
flop: still pretty damn wide as this is an easy c-bet
turn: you bet and were called on the flop, and when checked to were willing to take another stab. You were also c/raised, and willing to shove on top.

I'd say your range on the turn now is pretty tight. 77,QQ,AA,AQ. A9,99 also possible. The board is really drawy, so I'm not sure if you'd play AK this way, esp. since you're facing a turn raise. I suppose it's possible you have something like K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], but you probably would have just called the turn raise.

Best guess: AQ

---------

Hand 2: A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] all in on river
overall line: cold call preflop, bet flop, bet turn, raise river all in. very aggressive.

Preflop: You're cold calling here on the button to a CO raise. Due to the lack of a reraise, I'm ruling out QQ-AA, and AK. Possibly even able to rule out 99-TT and AQ.

Flop: 3 players to the flop, and you're not afraid to bet. Here your hand looks like A9,AT,AJ, possibly Ax suited (A5,A4). Diamond draws are also possible ( KQs,KJs,JTs,98s,87s,76s, etc). Sets also very possible - 44,55.

Turn: The board has 2 FD's, and it's checked to you. If you were drawing here with diamonds you probably would check behind. You bet though, so it looks like you are probably holding a big hand or an ace (44,55,A9+)

River: This is an interesting card. A 3 now gives anyone the straight - of course it's not a likely holding preflop.
After 2 streets of check/calling, the SB comes alive and fires 1/2 pot.

What do you have? A;spade:3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] quite possible since you bet the turn. You'd probably just call with 2 pair here, but I'm not really sure. Hmmmmm....

Best guess: [censored]. I dunno. 55?
-----

Hand 3: Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] passive line
overall line: raise pf, bet flop, check turn, call river
- this feels like a WA/WB line without even reading the details.

Preflop: CO raise the limper, broad range here
Flop: Only 2 to the flop, very wide again because we could c-bet
Turn: The board has 3 hearts out, and we check behind. It's now unlikely we have a Queen or a big hand (set, 2 pair, etc).
River: The ace is an interesting card. Villain leads here after playing very passive, and we're willing to call. There's no raise, so we didn't make the flush draw. I'm guessing you have something like 99-JJ or a weak queen (QT,QJ). An ace isn't unreasonable either, given the c-bet / check turn / call river line. This could be A9-AK.

Best guess: AJ

----

Hand 4: K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] pot control
Overall line: raise pf, bet flop, check turn, bet river

preflop: UTG raise here is quite strong. This puts a lot of pairs in your range, as well as high broadways

flop: you bet when checked to, again broad because of c-bets.

turn: you check behind villain when the queen comes. It's a drawy board for straights, so you probably don't have two pair (KJ,KQ) or a big hand (33,JJ,etc)

river: here when checked to you decide to bet. This really feels like you're trying to get value from a 2nd pair.

best guess: AK

-------

Hand 5: A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ape [censored] on flop
overall line: raise pf, call r/r preflop, raise flop, call 3bet on flop - very strong

Well, you're will to call a reraise preflop, and get it all in on the flop.

In a reraised pot we're not really ever folding top pair. Also, because villain 3bets flop AND reraised preflop, we can't go very far with QQ-KK.

I'd say it's pretty safe to say we have either AK, AA, or JJ here, with a slim chance of having 77.

Best Guess: AK

----

Hand 6: T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
overall line: limp preflop, raise flop, bet turn, bet river
strong because we had options to check behind

preflop: a limp here on CO is pretty weak. you're probably raising most pairs, and you'd never limp in with Ax or Kx here. You very likely have something like 76,87,98,JT, and some one-gappers

flop: 6 to the flop here and you raise a bet. I think most draws here just call rather than raise because they can be pushed off a hand with a ton behind. Looks like you could have T8 or 86 here. Also possible is a made straight like 97. JT wouldn't raise here, it would just call or even fold I think.

turn: you have the option to check behind, and again bet. Feels like you have T8 here

river: villain checks, you shove.

Best Guess: T8s or 97

------
Hand 7: 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
overall line: raise pf, bet flop, call turn, call river
feels like a top pair type hand

preflop: button raise means nothin
flop: heads up, this is gonna be bet a lot
turn: villain c/c'ed your flop bet, then led into you, and you feel strong enough to call here. It's also worth nothing that you didn't raise, so you're not afraid of this drawy board (22,88,55,66 are now ruled out)
river: villain bets again, and you just call with no raise. I think a hand like A8 or 98 here make the most sense.

Best guess: A8

-----

Hand 8: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
overall line: raise preflop, check flop, c/c turn, check river
very weak

pf: utg raise is strong. again, lots of pairs in this range.

flop: no c-bet from hero, which is strange. I'm assuming villain here is a station, or hero wants some pot control and wants to check/call with something like T9.

turn: hero checks again, villain takes a stab, hero calls
river: hero still doesn't love his hand, villain checks behind.

Best guess: T9

---------

Hand 9: J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
overall line: raise utg, bet flop, b/3b turn
-strong-

pf: utg raise here is strong - lots of pairs and high broadways, along with small pairs

flop: standard bet
turn: getting raise on the turn here is a little scary for hands like KK-AA, and even AQ.

This looks like 55,66,JJ,QQ to me. None are really more likely than another, so it's hard for me to give a best guess here.

Best guess: set. I'll say JJ for the hell of it

-----

Hand 10: 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
overall line: raise pf, bet flop, bet, call 3b-ai on turn
pretty strong

preflop: CO raise is wide
flop: when checked to hero bets. it's an ugly board though, so who knows

turn: this should narrow the range. the board now has a 1-card draw to a straight, and BB raises all in. anyone with 0-level reading can see the straight is possible. Hero HAS to have an 8 here to continue. Villain could easily hold 2 pair.

Best Guess: 98 or 87

-----------

Hand 11: Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]
overall line: cold call pf, donk flop, b3b river
super-strong

preflop: we're calling an UTG raise in the CO, so we're pretty strong here. lots of pairs, maybe a few good suited connectors, maybe AJs-AKs. JJ-AA unlikely because we'd reraise. Some people cold call AK to an UTG raise, others re-raise, not sure how AJ likes it I'll assume he reraises though and take this out of his range.

Flop: hero donks into this. A Q isn't too likely given his preflop calling range. I'd say 66 and 33 look pretty likely here.

Turn: villain c/r's villain, hero shoves it in without thinking.

33,66 most likely here - AK would be in an ugly spot if we cold called preflop, but we'd probably have to call here. KQ is a possibility, but less likely to call preflop unless it's suited.

Best guess: 66 or 33

Hand 12: T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]
overall line: raise pf, bet flop, check turn, call river
seems like a one-pair type hand

pf: co raise, wide range
flop: c-bet when checked to , wide
turn: 3rd flush card comes, and we don't bet, so we probably didn't make the flush here. It seems like if we had a ten we'd bet here.
river: King comes, and villain bets small. We just call.

Best guess: c-bet got called down, we luckboxed with a King on the river. We didn't raise though, so probably not KT. I'd guess KJ,KQ,AK

How'd I do AJ?

grunching

1. turn range, hero.. set, AQ, maybe AhKh, A9.
villain... AJ,AQ,A9,A7,JcTc,KcJc, AhTh, 79, Q9, 77, 99 maybe Th8h, 9hTh.

Narrowing it down to an exact guess, hero, AhQh, villain, A9.

2. with a one liner to a straight, I find it difficult to believe hero is doing this without a set at worst. 33-55,6d8d,77. until river I'd believe 6d7d, 66. villain probably has busted flush draw with an Ace, maybe two pair. Exact guess: hero-55, villain, As2s.

3. Hero has an Ace, probably AT+, villain has a medium-good Q or a flush. Exact guess, Hero AJ, villain, QT

4. Hero with AQ or AhJh, mayyybe AT, villain with KT- or JT-J8. Exact guess, hero-AQ, villain JT.

5. This just screams Hero with JJ, villain with AK. some other hands are possible, but this one is the most likely. like, hero could have AJ or KdQd, but I don't think our hero plays that way.

6. hero with sooted 97 or T8.(those are raising hands, AJ) Villain with AT.

7. I think this has to be an overpair, 99-JJ. Villain with T8-A8, 67, 99, he could have some sets too.

8. hero, 66-99, villain can have any two cards, probably not a jack, maybe a T.

9. hero with 55,66,JJ+, villain with AQ,KQ,QJ,55,66

10.Hero has 8T here a lot, occasionally a set depending on villain. villain has two pair, a set or any 8.

11. Hero with 33,66,AK,KQ,QQ+. villain range is the same plus maybe AQ and maybe some KsXs.

12.Hero with a good T or better one pair hand, villain with a wide range, including flushes and two pair, and worse one pair hands. Hero calls for pot odds and loses to a flush.

Cool idea AJ. I suck at this and need to get better.

Hand 1
PF: 20/16 in a button steal situation, this could be almost any reasonable hand, from suited connectors 67 above to any pair, to any broadway. Unknown smooth calls so we really don't know anything much about his range yet.
Flop: Unknown BB c/c's hero's standard cbet on a fairly scary but drawy board. This probably indicates a strong draw or good A or Q for villain, doesn't really tell us anything about hero's hand except PF wasn't a misclick.
Turn: Hero fires a 2nd barrel for more than 3/4 pot and gets c/r by villain. The first bet is pretty standard for a strong hand trying to protect against a now very drawy board. Villain could be raising w/ a variety of combo draws or 2 pair hands. Hero's overpush indicates something very strong, either AQ at the worst or a strong combo draw or set.
Villain: AKhh, TJhh or cc, 77, 99, AQ, A7, A9
Hero: AA, QQ, 77, 99, AKhh, AQ, A9, A7

Hand 2
PF:Hero flats PFR on the button. Probably not a dominated hand like AT/AJ, more likely a SC or middle PP playing for set value.
Flop:Hero bets, possibly FD, SD, or set of 5's/4's.
Turn:SB's most likely holding is an A here and Hero continues to bet. I'd say his most likely holding at this point is a set, since w/ the draws he would likely take the free card.
River:SB wakes up w/ the 2, which completes the wheel draw, and hero pushes. Hard to say if Hero is putting him on 2pair and value betting his set or if he does indeed have the nut straight w/ 68.

Hand 3
PF/Flop:Hero raises limper and makes standard cbet. Could be any reasonable hand from SC's, PP's, to broadways.
Turn:Checked through, indicating hero does not have a made hand or is slowplaying a flush.
River:Hero calls a large bet instead of raising. Most likely holding is a strong ace like AK/AJ with concerns that villain holds the flush.

Hand 4:
PF:UTG raise indicates narrow range, AT+, KQs and PP's.
Flop:Standard cbet
Turn:Checks through on a very drawy board. Hero likely has missed w/ a PP or has AK/AQ/AJ.
River:Hero value bets. I'd say he's beating a pair of jacks here, so probably AK/AQ. KQ would probably have bet the turn.

Hand 5
PF:Hero raise/calls here, probably something playing for set value but not strong enough to push.
Flop:Most likely 77 or JJ I would think.

Hand 6
PF:Smooth call multiway probably indicates a SC here, as hero would raise PP's and strong broadways.
Flop:Hero makes a PSR on a drawy flop. Probably hit the straight w/ 79 and is trying to protect against draws, although 2pair w/ T8 or a strong SF draw is possible w/ 9Jdd.
Turn:Hero continues to play strongly when the board pairs. This is probably either a full house or made straight.
River:Hero pushes for value, probably a boat imo.

Hand 7
PF/Flop:Hero makes an open raise from button and a standard cbet. Could be any reasonable hand.
Turn:6s brings lots of draws and villain bets. Hero's flat call indicates a hand but nothing montsrous worth protecting. Probably an overpair or TPTK.
River:River card changes nothing, so if hero was ahead he still is, and just calls. I'd say villain has a busted draw here pretty often, and rarely a made straight afraid of the paired board.

Hand 8
PF:UTG raise indicates tight range as in hand 4.
Flop: Hero misclicks and forgets to cbet on a HU drawy board. I would find this suspicious and put hero on a monster here, like JJ.
Turn:Hero c/c. I'd say most likely holdings are AKss or KQss.
River:Hero misses and hand is checked through. Villain probably wins w/ AJ here.

Hand 9 Hero takes a very strong line. I'd say this is JJ or QQ always.

Hand 10
PF/Flop:Standard CO steal situation.
Turn:Hero's strong line here can only be the nut straight.

Hand 11
PF:Hero flat calls an EP raise, so range is probably similar to hand 2, either a mid PP or SC, probably not an easily dominated broadway type hand.
Flop:Hero could have AQ, but I'd say lower sets or a FD are much more likely.
Turn:Hero is on 66 or 33

Hand 12:
PF/Flop:Standard CO steal situation, wide range.
Turn:Hero checks through here. Could be air, AT/KT, or a PP 66/88/99. Not something big worth protecting against draws.
River: Hero just calls the blocker. Probably something like AT or a small PP.

hand 1

{77,QQ,AA,AQ,A7,A9,AhKh-Ah?h} i don't see you having 99, Q9 or 79 that often, i think you might check behind flop with those. you might stick it in with AK no hearts, and i don't think there are that many drawing hands you get stick it in with here.

hand 2

i spent a bit of time working through this hand in the shower. i think {34,35,A3,6d8d,75,77} is about 90% of villains river bet-calling range, so i have hero on {6d8d,3d4d,3s5s}. aj could show up with sets and 2p here too but i think that's a mistake readless. i thought weak 1p hands might have been likely for villain, but i just can't see him coming out with a river blocker/bluff that often after you bet two streets. if you think villain is blocking with pairs and will fold/call a raise that opens up your range to busted draw bluffs and > decent 1p hands respectively.
