Holy [censored].

I just got the estimate; $1140 for new rotors, calipers and pads. $380 for labor, $760 for parts.

I drive a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am.

Is this even close to legit or am I getting [censored] royally?

LOL.. Rotors are prolly 100 a piece or so, big range on these. Pads are cheap. Most likely nothing wrong with calipers, you can test them easily, pop them off, compress the piston.. and start pushing on the pedal and see if it moves. The only thing that can really go wrong with them is if they are frozen and won't move.

Call and Auto Zone or whatever and ask for the price for the parts. This should give you a start as to how hard you're getting screwed.

I looked up prices online and, given the highest i could find, parts shouldn't be over like $520. Hrm.

I guess I take it to a different place for another estimate. Fun.

It's called markup.. any place u take it to is prlly gonna be 20% on top of what you can get it from an autoparts store for.

the later. where'd you go, Midas?

pads: no more than $50
rotors: maybe a $100
calipers: $200

these are high estimates. They can charge what they want for labor, usually $65/ hr. or in my experience, about the same cost as your parts. You're getting totally screwed on the parts. Tell them you have your own parts (your cousin manages a parts store or something) they might not do it, but someone might go along with this and just refuse to warranty it.

You might want to stock up on astroglide.

Def. get more than one estimate. When I was a broke-[censored] college student I got screwed by Midas for a brake job. I paid at least double what I would have if I'd shopped around.

glad it wasn't just me- Midas sucks. They'll put your car up, take everything off it, then tell you they can't put it back together "right" for less than a million.
