Disclosure, I'm no motorhead, but I've had lots of experience with car problems.

1st-Fill up the brake fluid reservoir. This might be all you need to do. I drove a car for over a year that leaked brake fluid. Every other day I had to re-fill, but the car stopped fine.

If that doesn't help you out, then you'll have to go the mechanic route, assuming you don't have any friends who can help you change pads. You don't have to get new rotors with new pads. You MIGHT need to, but not always. If your rotors are warped, new pads will still stop your car, the pads will just wear out quicker. So, don't assume you have to get the rotors replaced.

Any price to replace pads, rotors, and calipers for over $1k seems really excessive. I would expect $500, but that's just a guess. Good luck, car drama is always a drag.

So funny, it was Midas.

I went back to take my car to a Car-X down the street (apparently my Mom really likes this particular Car-X) and told them I was going to get other estimates. He was quite adament that I should just call around as he could tell me what service I needed, etc. I had to tell him that he was going to absolutely lose my business if he didn't put the wheels back on my car an allow me to take it down the street.

Let's see what the new estimate is. Difference O/U has to be -$150, right?

Well it is kind of a safety issue if the brakes don't work lol. I'd go with U 150 difference.

Having never used it for purposes other than fun in the snow, the E brake does do a pretty okay job of stopping a car.

not if you really need to stop it doesn't. prolly like 1/5 the stopping power of the front brakes.

Most places won't let you drive it away like it is though. Prolly due to liability issues that if you got in an accident u could say well they let me drive it and said it was ok.

LOL.

Car X called me back, w/ labor and everything it's going to be $820. They gave me a couple optional things,as their supposed to, and their list of things was at least $500 less than what Midas wanted me to do.

So, Car X was more than $300 cheaper than Midas.

If we've learned one thing from this [censored] thread; avoid Midas at all cost.
